My brother is putting his sweet dog down tomorrow. She has cancer, the tumor has already collapsed one lung, filled the other and is pressing on her heat. She is only 5 and she went from (seemingly) perfectly healthy to gone in just 6 weeks. Needless to say this has been tough on him so I'd like to do something for him. He's a former marine and currently a cop but a rather sentimental/emotional guy.
I think it might be nice to make him a quilted bed runner that says something like Joy since she was suck a joyful carefree dog and to put some of her hair inside the blanket. Nothing obvious or weird but just to let him know that she's always there with him. What do you think?

Re: Need your opinion - clicky poll
super cute idea, but I've heard it done with a little red heart in the corner of the blanket, you could stuff some fur in there?
Either way is sweet. (do you have the fur, or have to ask for it?) There's also a book about when pets leave us... something about going to another fun place in the sky... name escapes me, but I send it to all dear friends that loose a pet and they always LOVE it....
I can check my amazon orders.....
rainbow bridge? I read it once today and can't stop crying. I'll call my mom and have her clip or brush a little tonight.
she's really a sweet girl and my bro is tough on the exterior (like I said, marine corps, 2 iraq tours, cop) but he's been crying all day and I think a sentimental gift would be good for him. Penny lived with my parents while he was deployed so we'd see her ALL THE TIME, almost like a whole family pet. It's really sad, she hasn't had a full life yet.
DH thinks this idea is totally crazy, hence the lampshade crack.
I like the idea.
Another one, when my dog died my Dad took her tags, and put them in one of those cement stepping stone things - the tags imbedded in the cement, and her name. Very sweet, and a nice little remembrence in the yard.
Oh, I love this!
Both ideas are great!
Good idea! but my brother is still renting so no yard.
