~*~mdluv21~*~

Did you meet with Dr. Z before starting your cycle? We had a phone consult with him, and had another phone consult with a nurse yesterday. She said the first time I would meet Dr. Z would be at my Day 3 baseline ultrasound....and that's not for another 6-7 weeks.

I just feel a little weird putting all my eggs in one basket (no pun intended). We're supposed to get a ton of tests done, and pay OOP for genetic counseling. What if I don't feel comfortable with him once I meet him?

Just wondering if this is normal...and if so, how did you feel confident he was the doctor for you?

Thanks!!?

Re: ~*~mdluv21~*~

  • I met him before actually paying an money...I went in for u/s after I knew my last IUI had failed so CD 3 of cycle after the IUI...he did my u/s saw I had cysts and counted how many follies I had and put me on the BCPs and met.  That is when I started all my testing and appointments.   My insurance ended up paying for 90% of the testing but we did have to pay for the genetic counselor.  You don't have to pay the full amount until when you are starting the Lupron and you get your calendar.

    The only thing I paid for at that point (when I met him) was the u/s for that day.  I had already met with other doctors in the area and knew he was the one for me even before meeting him that day.  Have you read his book?  It is out of date in terms of some of the technology but I really felt I had a good sense of what kind of doctor he was after reading that.

    Also, with immune/blood problems, I feel he is by far the best RE in our RE to deal with those sort of issues.  Some of the REs still don't believe in intralipid or MTHFR, etc. playing a large role in the ability to get and stay pregnant.

    Let me know if you have any other questions.  :)

  • Thanks :)

    I guess I'm super confident in his abilities as a doctor, and he would be a great fit for me b/c of my immune issues, but I also have major trust issues. I'm just really nervous about going in for such an invasive, emotional, and expensive procedure without meeting him first. Maybe I can make an appointment for sometime during my break cycle (next month) and just pay OOP.

    Thanks again for responding so quickly!

  • Yes maybe just go in if this IUI doesn't work on CD3 for an u/s and that way you will get to meet him and he can make sure you don't have any left over cysts etc.

    Hopefully, you won't even end up needing him.   Smile

  • :::butting in:::

    I was just chatting with my acu the other day about REs in the NorCA area and he was saying really nice things about Dr.Z.  I am a couple hours away from you and it is really promising that his good reputation travels.   Just thought I would share that because from what I have heard from other people and docs he is a great RE.

    Good Luck!!!!
