NBR: Need help with gift ideas.

Since Triple T is bored.

My parent's 30th wedding anniversary is on Monday. I'd like to give them something nice from me and the kids but, I'm flat broke.

Any creative people out there have a good idea for something we can do for them? I'm leaning towards cooking/baking something or doing some kind of easy craft. I'd like to get the kids involved too.

TIA

  • I think it would be special if you made them a nice dinner complete with dessert and have the kids draw pictures or make handprints or something along those lines. I don't know any grandparent who doesn't like hand made gifts from the kiddos.

  • We have a family room that is in the back of our house (you can't see it from the front and this is where we spend all of our time) that is over taken by toys, so I have decided to make it our "F" room. F is for Family and FUN!!! I know cheesy right. So I will get some fun curtians and decorate the walls with the boys artwork. The main piece of artwork will be all four of our footprints and hand prints spelling out words such as family, love, fun, strength, etc.

What if you make a picture of the three of your footprints and handprints and spell out love, family, respect, joy, courage, happiness, grandparents, parents, strong, forever, or whatever word you think describes your  family or your parents best. Or a couple of words. Plus it would be something fun to do with your kids.

  • What about taking them to make something out of their handprints at Color Me Mine (or other pottery studio)?  You could do a platter or coffee mugs.  We haven't done this yet, but it's the kind of thing Ava is into and I plan on doing it sometime this winter when there is nothing to do.  This seems like one of those things where the price could vary widely b/c it just depends on what you decide to do.  However, it doubles as a gift for your rents + entertainment for your kiddos.

  • I was also going to go down the path of handprints or tracing hands and feet and having you and the kids come up with 30 things that you love about them.

Or, you can make them dinner and make easy things for the kids to serve them.

Or even do heart-shaped cookies and write different love/family words on them.

  • Skip to my Lou is a great craft blog and she has ALL kinds of gift ideas on there.  I am sure you could find something you could all do and most of the things are super cheap to make too.

  • What about those decorative cement stones that go in the yard. The kids could decorate it and put their handprints or something in it. Or go to one of those pottery places and let them make something. I don't think either of those cost much.
  • I like the idea of creating a "30 things we love about you" type of book.  Maybe you can do a photo book (Shutterfly or the like) with the 30 things captioned to the photos.
  • I framed some of Charlie's artwork for my gram's 75th birthday. She loved it, and it only cost me $10.
