Is there a good store-bought guacamole?

Or is homemade the way to go?  I can't stand the stuff, so I couldn't tell you, but I am wanting to serve salsa and guac at my dh's bday party.  There are going to be 50-60 people there, so that is a whole lot of avacodos if I'm going to make it.  Or maybe I should just skip it altogether?

Re: Is there a good store-bought guacamole?

  • I think homemade is the way to go. I usually make a big batch of pico and then just mix some into the mashed up avocados and add a little extra lime juice. I think its pretty easy since I'm already making the pico. Guac is one of those things that not everyonelikes, so I don't think you'll have to make a ton of it at all if you're having other food.

  • Wholly Guacamole is awesome.  Especially the spicy or green salsa flavors.  the original is good too

  • Usually by the produce you can buy a packet of spices for guac that you just need to mix into two mashed avocados. It is actually really good, I always add some diced onion and tomato as well. Everyone always compliments "my recipe." Zip it!

  • I 2nd Wholly Guacamole.
  • Homemade is better, but I like Wholly Guacamole and the stuff from Whole Foods if you have one near you.
  • Thanks, girls!
  • Whole Foods has the only store bought I like. We always just make homemade. We just do diced onion, tomaato, garlic powder, salt, lime and sometimes fresh jalepeno or cilantro with the avocado. 50-60 people is a lot to feed though, so I would go with store bought,
  • We also like Wholly Guacamole.  We have gotten it at Aldi's and Costco.  Whatever you do stay away from Dean's.
  • I think WG tastes like walpaper paste.

    Qdoba's guac is awesome.

Can I buy it there?  I never go there, so I'm not sure.

  • If you have a Trader Joe's near you, they have the best guacamole (and fresh salsa too).
  • If you have a local Mexican restaurant near you call and ask if they sell it. Most do and you can get a lot of it.

Yes - they have catering packagages so I know they sell in bulk!

Sweet, thank you! I'll give them a call!

We don't have Trader Joes or Whole Foods.  I checked for the Wholly Guac at the store over lunch, and they didn't have it.

OMG, ditto this!!  I bought it once and I think it is the only thing that has ever made me almost vomit upon tasting it.  I'm not exaggerating either!

I love the guacamole at Aldi's and Costco, but never paid attention to the brand name.   I guess I know now!
