Recommend your OBGYN that delivers at Good Sam

Hello Ladies.

Tim and are are TTC and have been discussing the possibility of changing OB practices.  Right now I am with OBGYN Specialist of NKY and I am not too sure if I am happy with them.

At my last early I had some questions about something things that are affecting our lives and the doctor actually chuckled at my questions.  I also asked if I would get a few extra ultrasounds considering the severity of my firstborns medical condition and they said no.  That if there are not any reasons for concern then they would treat my pregnancy like a normal healthy one.  I have a BIG issue with this.  My pregnancy was normal up until my 20 week ultrasound and I was told that if they had done one sooner that Max wouldn't have been as bad as shape as he was in.

So, needless to say, I am on the hunt.  I would like to deliver at Good Sam specifically for the NICU and because they are so close to CCHMC if we should need it again.  So, who is your OB.  What do you like or not like about them?  Do you think they would do ultrasounds before 20 weeks to make sure everything looks good with the baby?

Keep in mind as well, that I have to have another c-section because of the vertical cut on my uterus from the fetal surgery.  I don't think midwives to that, but I could be wrong.

Thanks ladies!

Beth

  • I go to For Women, they have 2 offices, main office is at Good Sam and they have an office in Evendale. They only deliver at Good Sam because of the NICU. All of the Dr.'s are women ( not sure if that is important to you or not). As for the extra ultrasounds, not sure what their thoughts are on that, since I don't have any history, I am getting the standard 20 week ultrasound. I do have a friend of a friend that had 2 complicated pregnancies and she used the practice for both of them. There are 8 dr.'s in the practice. Phone number is 751-1919 for the Clifton office, which I am assuming would work better for you, since you are in Northern Kentucky. Good luck with everything!

  • I used the Tri-Health Nurse Midwives and was very very pleased with them! I dont know if you are looking spec. for an OB or a high risk doc but the midwives were great even w/ the complicated pregnancy I had-- they stayed my main care provider until I had to go on hopsital bedrest then my care was transferred to the Tri-State Maternal Fetal Medicine group who work out of the Seton center at Good Sam-- I was pleased w/ their care as well

Fortunately I was actually able to switch back to the midwives for my delivery per my request since I was aiming for a med-free delivery. Overall I really liked the midwives because of their holistic method of care--they are concerned with more than just the baby and pregnancy, they want to make sure mom is handling everything okay, that baby is doing well too obviously but I always felt comfortable coming to them w/ my concerns, they always listened and I felt like they always took me seriously and trusted my mothers intuition--plus they were never stingy about ordering ultrasounds for me when I was concerned after our 1st ultrasound. HTH!

Oh and I go to their office in Clifton which is right across the street from Childrens

ETA: I missed the part about the c-section-- is a vbac something you are interested in? if so I would definitely talk w/ the midwives also I know they have an OB that works within their practice (Dr.Fengali) so I'm not sure if he would be an option within that group also.

  • I go to Samaritan Ob/gyn.  I love them and have never had a problem with them.  I really like that when there was a problem during my last pregnancy, they go me in ASAP when I couldn't see my PCP for over a week!  I love all the Drs there and are 100% happy with each and every one of them.  There office is right there at Good Sam.

    Good luck!

Even if a VBAC is out of the question, I see my midwife for my regular annuals, GYN care, etc. and I agree with everything Lauren said about the reasoning why.  What about looking for a practice that has both midwives and Ob doctors.  You can tell them that you are not currently pregnant, but want to see midwives for your yearly checkup/regular care (and perhaps you could see them for some of your office visits during pregnancy as well--maybe flip flop back and forth between the midwives and Ob's).  An Ob/gyn would have to perform the c-section, but at my practice if a midwife patient has to have a c-section for whatever reason, the midwife still assists the doctor in the operating room and is there for the patient.

Another doctor I have had highly recommended to me is Dr. Bowen.  He's an Ob/gyn so he can perform a c-section, but I've had several friends see him because of his very high success rate with VBAC births, he works with a midwife in his office and I think someone even told me he has helped with some homebirths.  I know you aren't interested in that--I'm just saying that it appears he takes a lot of care with his patients and has a holistic outlook on health.  I think he delivers primarily at B North, but has privileges at Good Sam and will deliver there for high risk.

ETA: Are you FB friends with Heather (used to be hmb324 here on The Nest)?  She is one of the friends I mentioned who saw and raved about Dr. Bowen.

  • I saw Dr. Donna Lambers at Tri-State Maternal Fetal Medicine www.tri-statemfm.com

I also liked Dr. Brady at the same practice.  They are located inside Good Sam.  I was considered high risk (though we didn't have any problems), so I had an ultrasound twice a month for most of my pregnancy.

(I do not like Dr. Voss, also at the practice)

  • I absolutely LOVE Dr. Eva Ringennberg. Her office is right near Kenwood Mall.

I have been going to her since I was 18... She is so personal (it's her own practice) it's like going to a midwife experience but she's the Dr. I cant say enough good things about her. She truly cares and just loves babies.

She has an u/s machine in her room and I think there was only 2 appointments in my whole pregnancey I didn't get an u/s. That's how she likes to check on the baby and fluid, etc. I loved that! I got to see DS grow...

She is also extremely cautious which I loved... My DH had a brother who died in infancy from a few different complications. One of which was a heart condition. I had all kinds of tests done to make sure that DS and his heart were fine.

    Her # is 984-6565

  • Unfortunately, I am not able to have a VBAC because of the type of cut they used on my uterus during the fetal surgery.

Thank you for all of the responses.

  • i had  a consult with tri-state mfm. i think i am going to go with them when the time comes. i am sad though that they suggested i wait a while to ttc but i agree with their opinions.
