My ob/gyn has me on Clomid because I ovulate late in my cycle. Last cycle I did 50mg on days 5-9 but I still ovulated on day 20/21 of a 28 day cycle so that was a bust. This cycle she has me on 100mg on days 5-9.
Has anyone taken Clomid for a luteal phase defect and have it work?

Re: Anyone have success with Clomid and LPD?
yes and no. That's how my whole history started out, I ovulated too late to play. So yeh, then we bumped up to 100, and got it where it needed to be. It's the whole idea of beef up ovulation so your body is responding in a timely fashion.
I would highly suggest you consider seeing a RE instead of OB. I did it your way for WAYYYYY tooooooo long, and wasted a lot of time and money. They just don't have the expertise to dial that in right. Monitoring during your cycle, etc. is super important, and you may want to consider adding a hcg trigger if you didn't, and p4 support.
Hopefully you're one of these easy cases where you just need that lil' nip, and voila! If this doesn't work in a couple cycles, move onto that RE consult.
Good Luck!
Thank you so much DaveZwife. My ob/gyn did say that if it doesn't work this time around she will be referring me to a RE.
I hope all I need is a little tweak too
I completly agree with Davez about seeing an RE.
I also ovulate late usually around day 18 but still have a 28 day cycle. We were trying for #2 for 5 months before seeing the RE again. I had done a previous IVF due to MFI but once we started seeing the RE again for #2 we discovered that our MFI had improved dramatically (due to a surgery) but I will could not get pregnant.
I spoke with the RE about my screwy cycle and this they keep assuring me that LPD is a myth but obviously there is something going on with me. Anyways, they put me on 100mg of clomid with TI. It was just a stab in the dark and much to my shock it worked.
Good luck
I really appreciate your responses. Like I said I am going to do this next cycle (praying really hard it works) but if this one doesn't work off to the RE it is!
make the appt now - then this cycle will work for sure! (lol. seriously!)
There's a huge debate in the world of IF about LPD.... and it all comes down the Chicken and Egg arguement. Do you have a crappy LP b/c your ovulation stunk? Probably. So do you fix the source of the problem (ovulation) or just treat the problem (short LP) see what I mean?
like I said, I wasted a TON of time dinking around with this. *I* was the one suggesting I take the prometrium vaginally, *I* was the one calling the shots.. and I had, what I thought, was a good doc that "specialized" in IF. (nosomuch)
I ended up having a whole other set of issues, but yeh... give it a short chance, then run with the big dogs, I say.
GL!
