January 2011 Moms

Movement question

Baby has been moving quite a bit for the last few weeks, however, yesterday she was super quiet.  I did feel her yesterday, but not as much as I had been feeling her.  I'm wondering if she was facing my back (since I was having pinch nerve type feelings yesterday) and the night prior I felt her on my right side in a little ball.

I'm definitely the last due in January and not as far along as the rest of you, so I was curious if you could all offer some input since most of you are into 3rd tri already.

I should also mention I have an anterior placenta.  I "think" I feel her moving low as I type this ... almost like a fluttering feeling, but her movements aren't as strong as I've been feeling.

Re: Movement question

  • Coming from one of the girls due in the beginning of January I wouldn't worry too much - especially if you have an anterior placenta.  I don't have one but my coworker did and she said she rarely felt her daughter move when she was pregnant.  For me, I usually have constant movement but yesterday I felt barely anything until around 9PM.  Of course that worried me until I saw & felt him kicking around but I also remind myself that some days he will be more active than others and I just need to make sure that I keep track of his movements so I can re-assure myself that everything is fine one the days were he's just a tiny bit active.

  • Thank you!  Like I said, I think I'm feeling her move around down low, but it's kind of light taps/flutters.  There have been times recently where I've felt really strong kicks/punches, but they were higher up around my belly button.

It just worries the heck out of me when she does this.

  • I'm due at the end of January too.  I have a posterior placenta so I feel a ton of movement but some days are more than others.  Yesterday was quiet too but I did feel movement just not as much as the day before.  I think it's ok.  I'm not going to worry since certain doctor's appointments the baby has been wicked active and other times more lazy.  I'm going to count yesterday as a lazy day.

  • I am late Jan too, and feel everything very low and spuratic. Definitley some days I feel more than others.  I think this is completely normal when you think about how small our babies still are.  Now if we were 36 weeks and this was happening, I would feel concerned.

  • You're still too early to be worried about consistent movement.  Baby could be having a quiet day, or her sleep patterns may have changed, and she mgiht just be most active while you're sleeping right now.  My OB told me yesterday at my appoinment that I should start monitoring movement on Monday - 27w - and to call if I don't feel 10 movements in a 3-hour period.  Even on quiet days, I feel LO at least that often, although the movements aren't always hard kicks/punches.

  • yes esp with an antieror placenta i wouldnt worry so much. i know so much easier said than done. its still too early for kick counts.

  • Everyone else has already said pretty much what I wanted to say, but I did want to tell you I know how you feel!  The past week or so, my LO has been SUPER active, all day, and then two days ago I barely felt her at all all day long.  Luckily, I had an appointment yesterday, and she was squirming around again and fine, but I asked my dr. about kick counts and movement consistency.  She said that even at 27W it was too early to use fetal movement as a predictor of anything.  She didn't want me to worry about kick counts at all until 32W.  She said, of course, if your mama's instinct tells you there's something wrong, or you have any other symptoms, call or go in, but babies definitely have their lazy days just like we do :)
