How many prefolds and covers are needed?

Hi ladies,

I just ordered my first batch of Green Mountain diapers and am really excited...but I'm curious to know...

- are 24 prefolds (for a newborn) enough? or should I go for 36?

- do I need AS many covers as prefolds? How many diaper covers should I have? (I ordered bummi super brite covers)

 24 should be enough if you don't mind washing every other day. I had 8 covers and that was WAY too many 3-4 is enough

Bummis Superbrite covers are good for the brand new baby time, but they only last until 9 lbs so I'd recommend getting some other XS covers, too.  We had 2 Bummi Superbrtes & 4 Thirsties XS & that was plenty.  We probably could have even done fine w/ 1 less Thirsties.  I'd think 24 NB PFs is plenty.  Those PFs make awesome burp cloths once your baby outgrows them, too.

I didn't start CD until 11ish pounds, but I was just going to recommend Thirsties (not duo) covers.  I liked them a lot better than bummis.  I think it is nice to have both, though, since they are slightly different sizes...depending on the weight your favorite might change!

We have 3 + wool, but we also have pockets etc.

I have 24 Indian prefolds and 6 thirsties duo wraps.  The local cloth diaper store said this should be enough for every other day washing.

I did prefolds for our newborn DD and we had 24 prefolds, 3 stacinator so simple covers and 2 thirties covers and it was just enough.
