Need help

If you owe the army money and you dont have it by the time you are to get out, what will they do??

Does anyone have an idea?

  • Too my knowledge they will take it out of your checks. So say you own them 3k, they would take your whole last months pay, or however much was needed to pay it.

  • What if he doesnt make as much as he owes??

  • Like he owes DFAS?  Oh, they'll get their money if they have to garnish his wages at future jobs or take it out of his tax refunds.  They may even take it out of several paychecks before he gets out, not just the last one.  Somehow, some way, they'll get their money.
  • They may also hold him in until the money is paid back.DH works in the legal office and sees it all the time.They will not release anyone who owes.

  • In my experience I have seen Soldiers not be allowed to outprocess until the debt was repaid. Orders extensions can be granted for this purpose.
  • In rare cases, they will set up a debt repayment plan. You need to work with the finance office on this.
