Shampooing carpets ... when?

Just wanted to find out if anyone knows if there are any dangers to having your carpets cleaned while pregnant. I want to schedule ours to be cleaned and would like to know when would be the best time and if I need to be out of the home so I can prepare.

TIA!

  • I don't think there should be any concerns unless you have skin allergies. I know that it is safe for pets provided they are not allergic to the cleaning supplies. If this is the case you should just make sure you don't walk barefoot on the carpet until it dries.

In any event if you are concerned you can always ask your doctor or the carpet cleaning company what chemicals they use.

  • I cleaned ours with a rented machine. The soap is no problem. If you're hiring it done I just might ask if they use anything that has a lot of ammonia in it to get out stains. That would be best to avoid.
  • We plan on getting our carpets shampooed before baby comes as well.  I'm thinking sometime in early December. That way it will still be nice when family comes to visit after baby.  I've never had the carpets professionally done, usually we just rent the vacuum from the market.  This time we are going to hire because I want downstairs and upstairs done.  Does anyone know if they move the furniture, or do they just clean around it?

Usually they just clean around the furniture. You can probably request they move the furniture but I would plan on paying an additional charge.

  • I sure hope not. I just did mine myself last night.Indifferent
  • There is a company in Atlanta called ZeroRez that uses a chemical-free process...worth googling for your area.
  • I think they just use steam and maybe some shampoo for stains.  I wouldn't worry about it.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • We get ours done 2-3 tines a year. The guy moves allot of the furnature except the really big items like beds etc. But dies mice the couch and chairs the cleaner is fine but if you have it treated for pet urine the smell is kinda intense so I leave the house open and go run errands. It takes a couple days to really dry. DON'T put area rugs back down until it is dry or it will really mess your carpets up
