How much yogurt is too much? :-P

DD is obsessed.

She's begging for 'yogurt parfait' at least 2-3 times a day for the last week. She occasionally gets one of the McDs ones, but I usually just give her a regular yogurt, sometimes with berries mixed in.

Last night she woke up at 3:15 sobbing 'yogurt parfait' over and over again. I rocked her for 10 minutes, and as I tried to put her down the yogurt refrain started again. So at 3:30 this morning I was in the kitchen feeding her yogurt by the nightlight on the microwave.

She's eating like a horse, so I assume it's a growth spurt, but I've gone through 20 yogurts in less than a week.

  • That's funny! Not funny enough to miss sleep over thoguh Stick out tongue

My kids could eat yogurt for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks in between. They love it! I try to limit them to once/day or separate it out by several hours in between. One thing that does help is getting smaller cups or the tubes. We buy some smaller cups at TJ's (I think they are 4 oz.) and the tubes we buy are 2.5 oz.

  • DD has eaten yogurt every day since she was 6 months old.  She loves it.  Usually we give her yo-baby or just plain yogurt with dried fruit or granola.  It sounds like your DD is growing and this may be a phase.  She might always want yogurt, but not as much as now.

  • I know this is a phase she is going through and this is more a rhetorical question, but wouldn't yogurt fall into the same category as milk where it should be limited somewhat?  I know my pedi recommends around 16oz of milk daily for my boys and that more than that can interfere with iron absorption.  Anyway, I know you aren't really concerned.  I'm just thinking out loud...

  • Well, from what I can google, they say that an ounce of yogurt is considered the equivalent of an ounce of milk, so even 3 of the 6oz ones a day is only 18 oz.

She's eating everything else I give her, too, so it's not as though she's eating yogurt exclusively. Last night for dinner she had 1/3 c each of noodles, beef from stroganoff, and green beans, topped off with a clementine and a couple of gummy Halloween candies from TJs.

I expect her to be 5'9" by next week.

  • I was thinking that she was having all that yogurt, plus another 16 oz of milk, so that is why I was pondering it.

Either way, that is some growth spurt!!

  • lol!  That is really funny.  My kids love yogurt, too.  I guess just not that much!
  • matt plowed through lots of yogurt at about her age when he was not feeling well due to molars.  i gave him yogurt along with fruit and veggies and traded out some milk in his sippy for water at the time. luckily, they go through these spurts quickly.
