S/O 18-month sleep regression...

Am I crazy to think maybe DD is hitting part of this early?  I was reading this and a lot of it sounds like DD.  She is very verbal already and does use two and three-word "sentences" to boss Mommy and Daddy around.  "No no, Daddy.  Mommy!" is a popular one, and for example the other day we were sitting on the bed and she wanted to go look at a picture on the wall; I was trying to just talk to her about it without getting up and she said, "No no, Mama.  Up.  Walka walka."  That one cracked me up.

Anyway, could it be that this latest bout of crazy wakefulness has a lot to do with her verbal skills and some of this cognitive stuff?  I know she's teething, too, and just started walking... so there's a lot going on.  I guess I'm just desperately hoping that there is an end in sight at some point.  Yawn.

(She is routinely up every 1-2 hours every.single.night for the past couple of months, and does a lot of talking in her sleep).

  • It can definitely be related to any of those things you mentioned. We had some difficult sleep times, but it really all does get better. In the past few weeks, DS has STTN almost consistently, and this is unheard of. A miracle. So just hold out - it will get better someday.

  • Ari just started sleeping better, & I'm already worried about the 18 mo regression. Sleeping better = nightweaned (I won't nurse before 5), so sleeping till 5 most nights but waking up crying at least 1-2 times most nights before 5, but he falls back to sleep quickly most of the time. At least 1-2 times per week he's up for about 2 hours in the middle of the night. This is by no means great but waaaaayyyy better than we were.

Yay, Ari!  I follow your sleep posts with great interest because I think we have similar (non-)sleep patterns.  I'm glad things are getting better.  And hey, the Ask Moxie stuff about this 18-month regression says that some kids who are bad sleepers until that point magically start sleeping better at 18 months instead of worse.  Here's hoping that we're in that camp.  I think we've paid our sleep dues!

  • I am in 18 month sleep regression hell.  Add in the molars and canines and it is miserable over here.  Ben, who was STTN in his crib for a good 5 months is now sleeping half the night with us when he isn't up screaming.  Ugh ugh ugh.
