Babies: 3 - 6 Months

when did you stop using the swing for naps?

My LO recently turned 4 months and I know I need to stop using it, but it is the only way he will go down for his AM nap and I do not want a cranky baby all day!  He loves the movement and I hate that I will have to stop using it soon!

  • I started about a month ago now. He used to sleep for 3 hours in his swing, but now it's usually an hour and a half, though sometimes he will sleep for more. I think it's all about consistency. Once you start putting your LO down for naps in their crib, they will eventually start to sleep longer. GL!
  • I'm scared about not using the swing too.  I haven't started transitioning her out of it.  I also want to use it as long as possible because once she outgrows it, it won't be used.  I'd hate to only use it for 4-5 months when I know I could get a little more use out of it.  I'm so torn.....

  • DS is still napping in his swing.. otherwise he would not nap at all.  I have tried tp put him in his crib but 45min of screaming is more than I can handle.. I am hoping that he will tell me when he is ready to be out of it.. Although he is getting close to 25lbs so I may have to start thinking about how/when I will transition...

  • Honestly, I sent them to daycare at 12 weeks having never taken a nap in crib and only in a swing/on me.  The first weekend after that, they took all their naps in the crib.  Daycare sucks, but for that, it was worth every penny!Big Smile

It sounds like you're a SAHM, so I'm not very helpful, sorry.  You may have to sooth for the entire nap a few times.  Babies are adaptable though, but he'll figure it out.

  • I'm using mine still.  I'll use it until he tries to escape.  I used it with my dd until she was 9 months old (she was a peanut).  She has no sleep issues and is 3 years 7 months.
