The angel care movement monitor versus the summer hand held video  monitor....Which are you all getting or which one do you use???  I'm debating between the two...

Re: Movement Monitor vs. Video Monitor

  • I am getting the Angel Care Deluxe Movement monitor... I am not very knowledgable in this area but from what I heard people can tap into your video monitors and see your baby/ you if they have a system set up nearby. This freaks me out and I am mostly concerned with monitoring the baby, I won't sit there and watch a video of her 24-7, and even if there is an alarm by the Sound monitor, I will get up to go check on her. I am sure some people that know much more about this will post though.

  • We're doing both, but we got the movement monitor as a hand-me-down from my cousin, and I can understand why most people wouldn't want to spend that much money.

We're using the movement monitor for the first few months when the SIDS risks are highest.  We'll probably set up the video monitor at the same time, but I've heard the video monitors are more useful when babies are a little older and more mobile; if the baby is crying, you can look at the screen to see if he/she is still lying down and just being fussy, or if he/she is actually up and awake in the crib.

  • We have the Summer Infant Complete Coverage system.  It's definitely one of my must buy baby item! Couldn't live without it.  We use it sooo much!

  • We have both. You really can't compare them...one is for movement / apnea...the other is to see your kid. I like knowing that if she (or he in a few months) stops breathing, the alarm goes off...I wouldn't see that on video. Or if she's crying, I like to look at the video and see why...most of the time it's in her sleep and I know not to go check her (opening the door wakes her up).

Instead of Angelcare, I have BabySense V - I think it's better b/c it has 2 pads (angelcare only has one...so when baby starts moving  around and rolling, you have more false alarm). I only had 1 false alarm with mine, she was 4 months old so I only had one pad under the mattress, and she rolled for the first time and the alarm went off...I added the 2nd pad and no false alarms!
