Elevated TSH

After being told everything checked out, I received a phone call today from my nurse saying my TSH was elevated and they want to recheck it.  I see that if the recheck shows it is elevated as well they will put me on medication to balance it.  I don't know how long that takes.  Since I am scheduled to start stimming later this month, do you think they will make me wait until my TSH is under control to cycle?

Re: Elevated TSH

  • Well a lot is going to depend on how elevated it is.  It takes 6-8 weeks for the meds to impact your TSH.  If your TSH is 6.2 it is going to take less time to regulate then if it is 23.  Generally it takes 2-3 medication adjustments to find the right dose.  However, you could easily get lucky if your doc finds the right dose the first time.  But you will still have to wait the 6-8 weeks to see if the medication dose is correct or not.

If it's only a little elevated, they "may" let you continue with your stimming plan. If it's really high, I'm not sure I would personally want to chance it. Having a real high TSH can hinder your ability to get KU in and of itself.
