any experience with tea tree for lice?

There are a few kids in DD's preschool class who have been sent home with head lice.  Other than washing her nap mats, clothes, etc in hot water is there anything else I can do to prevent her from getting head lice?  I've heard that tea tree oil shampoo can prevent them and thought about using that for her bath tonight?  They're beyond gross and I'd love to do anything I can to keep them off DD and out of my house.

Thanks!

Re: any experience with tea tree for lice?

  • a coworker swears by coconut scented hair product.  supposedly it repels the little critters.   she switches her grandkids to coconut shampoo and conditioner and then puts a coconut styling cream on them whenever there is an outbreak at their school. they haven't been reinfected since she started this.  not sure if there is any validity to it.

  • I read somewhere online that putting tea tree oil on the back of your child's neck will prevent lice.  Worth a try!
  • I had a friend that would diluted it in a spray bottle of water & spray her kids hair everyday & it seemed to work for her & having it diluted it didn't smell so bad.
