C/S delivery and success w/ breast-feeding

Ladies....  Did having a c/s effect your ability to tandem breast feed twins?  Thanks for sharing...  I'd like to know how hard I should be working to help my boys rotate out of the transverse positions so I can have a vaginal delivery.  My main concern is being strong enough to exclusively breast feed w/ success.

Re: C/S delivery and success w/ breast-feeding

  • i had a c/s with the twins and nursed them easily when i was in the hospital... i decided to switch to EPing at home - for various reasons- but none had anything to do with having a c/s.... it was just as easy to nurse after my c/s with the twins (tandem) as it was to nurse DS1 after a vag delivery.

  • My c/s didn't interfere at all with nursing mine tandem. I didn't do it a lot due to other reasons, but the c/s wasn't one of them.

  • We nursed just fine after my c/s. I had plenty of help in the NICU getting things set up, and once we got home, the EZ 2 Nurse pillow has a strap on the back.

  • I tandem breastfed in the hospital after my c/s with no problem.  But now I'm having supply issues (one breast has basically quit working) so feeding them both at the same time is pretty much out the window.

  • The only thing my C-section may have affected is how quickly my milk came in. It took 12 days for it to fully come in, but I was able to bf Mason and still pump milk to send to Wyatt in the NICU the entire time. It just increased very slowly for the first 12 days. I had a vaginal delivery with Rhett and was only able to EBF him for 3 months, then supplement for another 3 months because of supply issues. I did not have any of those problems with M&W and they are still nursing at 14 months.

  • I had a c/s and it had no effect on my BF.  My girls couldn't tandem feed at first, but I would nurse them in the football hold while I was there to get used to it.

  • C/S hasn't had any impact on tandem feeding for me either. I don't often yet, because one baby has trouble focusing when his sister is there, but I hope it will get easier once they get bigger.
  • Thanks everyone... that's promising to hear!

  • I still tandem feed 95% of feedings after having a c-section.  It didn't cause any problems for us.

  • I had a c/s and tandem fed for my first feeding.  I highly recommend the EZ2 nurse pillow.

I had a c-section and was semi-successful BFing (partially BF DDs until they were 9 months).  I had supply issues, but I think it was more due to the fact that my DDs were early and didn't "get" BFing for several weeks.  I think success with BFing has more to do with when your babies are born vs. how they are delivered (but the biggest factors is probably how hard you work at it to make it work).
