Cloth Diapering

Overnight inserts

My DD has been leaking thru the last few nights.  She sleeps 12+ hours. She has been drinking more so I'm assuming we need more night protection at this point.  I usually use 2 MF inserts at night.  What would you add or change so that she can wake up without soaked jammies?

Re: Overnight inserts

  • MF is very fast absorbing, but hemp really holds a lot more.

I have AFFF inserts which I love, but they are hard to come by.

I also have hemp babies inserts and if I stick in two of those they work just as well.

So,one MF on top and either one AFFF double folded or 2 hemp babies.

  • Sorry for the stupid question, but what is an AFFF insert?

  • AFFF - Artsy Fartsy Foo Foo hemp inserts. They are super awesome.  I would add a hemp to your overnight set up.

  • Hemp has to go in the middle of the MF right? Do they need to be washed any differently?

It should be under a MF. The MF should be closest to the baby. If you put in 3 inserts, I recommend one MF and 2 hemp.

Yes, it is a natural fiber so you will need to boil it or wash/dry 5-6 times for full absorbancy (unless it comes prepped)

  • I agree with the hemp recommendation. DS sleeps in one bamboo insert (similar absorbency to microfiber) and one hemp insert, and that works well. For hemp, I use Joey Bunz -- they're easy to find.

Another quick solution is to put wool or fleece over the diaper. Could be a soaker, shorties, longies, whatever. The wool/fleece will catch whatever the diaper misses and keep her jammies dry.
