I was at the mall last night picking up some make-up and the girl at the counter recommended I call and check about the products I'm using for retinol since I'm pregnant. I use Bobbi Brown skincare products - nothing Rx or orally - so I never gave it a second thought when I first found out I was pregant. Well, I just called the consumer care number and the eye cream and overnite cream both have retinol derivitives in them! Thankfully my skin has been breaking out so much I haven't used the overnight cream(only a few times recently) but I have been using the eye cream daily. I put a call in to my doctor just to see what they had to say but I always appreciate your opinions as well... thoughts?
Ps. Obviously I am going to stop using them from now on but I am worried about past-usage during the 1st tri! EEK!
Re: Skincare products containing Retinol?
Retinol based creams are the only thing that helped keep my pre-pregnancy face clear, so I did some research on them before TTC.
Turns out there is no conclusive evidence (like always). Basically, the pills and the super duper strength Rx versions have been shown to cause some problems in laboratory animals and perhaps in humans.
There is no evidence that the topical creams with very little amount do any damage.
Its another one of those "whatever you are comfortable with" scenarios.
I chose to give it up for the first trimester and now I've begun to use a bit on my forehead (where the breakouts are horrendous) every other day.
Of course, I use ROC which is very upfront about their retinol use. I imagine the creams you've been using have so little in them I wouldn't give it a second thought.
