Anyone else cancelling holiday plans this year? I keep going back and forth on this topic because my EDD is 1/1 so if I follow my Dr.'s rules then I should be staying at home. The other part of me thinks that my family will be celebrating 2.5 hours away and if I happen to go into labor...there is a hospital close by OR we could be home in 2.5 hours.
Re: Holiday plans?
My family lives 25 hours away in a car, so there's no way in hell. I'm really not sure what exactly our plans are since MIL is going up to SIL's, but I'm not hosting anybody and I'm not traveling more than a half hour in a car. If that makes me a Scrooge, then bah effin humbug.
I'd love to be with friends & family, but it's really just not in the cards. Though I'll miss them, I'll be focusing more on what a fun time I'm having with H drinking cocoa by the fire.
For you, I'd make sure you look good & hard at your insurance coverage. It's very possible that the nearest hospital 2 hours away isn't covered and if you go into labor you'll have to drive an eternity to a hospital where you are covered, or you'll have to pay for the entire thing OOP.
Look into your insurance. Being that far away from your hospital may be considered out of network.
We have canceled plans this year only because they won't let me go past New Year's since I am carrying twins. We will celebrate at a later date. What about your family coming to you instead?
Katie: 1/16/08 2lbs. 15oz.
Abby & Emily: 12/31/10 6lbs. 2oz. & 5lbs. 7oz.
My EDD is 1/15 and I will be 36 weeks at X-mas. My health plan won't pay for a delivery at a hospital other than the one they contract with after 36 weeks so I have to stay within a 2 hr radius, which rules out going to IL's for x-mas eve like we usually do. They will be coming to us and staying until x-mas morning when we will drive 20 min to my parent's house.
Lately for New Years I have my sister, her husband and a couple that is friends with us all and I make yummy appetizers and we watch the ball drop, pretty low key. This year, I will be 38 weeks pg and my sister has a baby and my friend is going through IVF, so hopefully she'll be pg. I told them everyone is more than welcome to come but I can't promise that we will have such good food, it will probably be more like pigs in a blanket and totino's pizza rolls rather than home made meat balls and arancini.
Also, don't forget that, depending on where you live, holiday traffic can greatly increase the travel time.
For some crazy reason I thought it would be nice to host Thanksgiving and made a huge deal about it since last Thanksgiving. It's our third Thanksgiving since living in our house so I thought it would be special, so now I'll be 8 months preg and trying to cook all day. My family is great though, I know my mom will come over early and help me do whatever cleaning or cooking that I need help with. Others offered too.
I decided I don't want to do anything big for Christmas day (my fave holiday) so we will likely just go to DH's grandma's house for a nice quiet holiday since it's only a little way from our house and it's closer to our hospital than we are anyway. In the days leading up to Christmas we will travel a few hours away to see family (with dr clearance) but I will get a hospital list as suggested, I hadn't even thought of that!
