Looking for SUV that will fit 2 carseats and 2 tall parents

DH and I are both very tall (6'4" and 5'11") and we can't ride comfortably in my Jeep Compass with the rear facing convertible carseat in the back.  I was hoping this car would be good for children, but didn't have the foresight to think about this 3 years ago pre-kids.  I need to find a new SUV that will fit 2 carseats with enough leg room for tall parents in the front.  What do you have?  Also, I really don't want to have some giant thing like a Suburban, because I commute 60 miles a day round trip.

  • We just bought a nissan pathfinder and really like it. I went from a car to this, so I'm still getting used to the gas-hog component. ;-) It has been getting 20-22 mpg so it isn't SO bad...

  • i have a nissan rogue and love it! i am 5"8 and my FI is 6"1 and we fit very comfortably.. the back seat is roomy enough for two carseats! i also love the chevy traverse but it wasnt in our price range! :) GL!
  • We have a 3 row Trailblazer and love it.  I commute 100 miles round trip daily, and it clocks at 18 MPG.
  • We have a Toyota Highlander and it has a lot of room.  It also has a 3rd row seat that folds down for storage.
  • My dad drives a Honda CRV and I've always said that was the perfect family car! I love driving it when I visit my parents. There is so much space in that car, while not being a huge SUV. Plenty of space for RF seats and leg room for those sitting up front. I'm 5'7" and DH is 6' and it worked great for us. Plus, there is a TON of trunk space. And it gets great gas mileage.

I have a Lexus RX and while it gets great gas mileage, there is no space in the back seat. My knees are almost in the dash with DD2's seat RF in there. We had to turn DD1 FF at 20 months when DD2 was born because I couldn't drive with a RF seat behind the drivers seat. DH drives a Tahoe and there's pretty good space in that, but I think it's a beast and it doesn't get too great of gas mileage.

  • We had a major problem with trying to fit two large carseats in my tiny little Jeep Liberty.  We just went out and bought a third row Chrysler Pacifica, and I LOVE everything about it.  Its large, and comfortable, fits carseats perfectly, and has everything I would want in it.
  • NOT a Jeep Liberty - probably similar to your Compass, but with a RF convertible, the front seat people are squished!  my husbands mazda speed 6 has more room than my "SUV"!

  • We have a Toyota Sequoia, a bit smaller than a Suburban, larger than the Highlander.  It's very comfortable with 2 large dog crates, 2 carseats, 2 tall people, and all our stuff.

My friend has the Chevy Traverse, it has more cargo/leg room than any vehicle in its class and gets better gas mileage too.  In fact, it almost has as much cargo space as my Sequoia (2 cubic feet less)

  • We have a Subaru Forester & LOVE it.

I'm 5'11" & my husband is 6'2" so we feel your pain on the height thing.

It fits Harrison's Britax Marathon well when it's rear-facing behind the passenger.  I don't know how it would do with rear-facing behind the driver, but our plan is to put him forward-facing behind the driver & Baby #2 rear-facing behind the passenger.

  • I have a Suburban, and I commute 100 miles a day round trip.

    Is there a Baby #2?

Ditto this - my friends Traverse is a great size!

We have an Edge and with the Britax Marathon RF I have plenty of leg room in the passenger seat.  I'm 5'10".  We would put DS FF behind the driver and the second kiddo RF behind the passenger and be fine.

Our second vehicle is an F150 cab and a half and I HATE having DS RF.  I'm so ready to turn him because I have to ride in the back seat when we take the truck.  ((I'll wait till 12 months though for sure and maybe longer))

  • DH has a Toyota RAV4 and I have a Volvo XC90.  The 4 of us fit fine in both cars, but I find my car to be more comfortable overall (just cause it's a bit larger than the RAV).  We also looked at a Honda Pilot and that also would be spacious for a family of 4.

  • Audi Q7 is perfect!  We love everything about it and think we'll be keeping it in our line of cars.  We have had Audi's before so we were looking for the same feel in a truck.  We also looked at the Volvo XC 90 and it was a contender as well.
  • Mazda CX9. DH is 6'4" and the seat adjusts 7 (I think) ways to accommodate different passengers.  Also got the best safety ratings for an SUV.  I did my research and this is the best one IMO.
