So if it is a girl my husband and I are 90% sure we are using Lorelei/Lorelai middle name will most likley be Mae. I want some opinions on the spelling. I really like the look of the 'Lorelai' spelling but I don't want people thinking I am just using it because of Gilmore Girls....(I LOVE the show but have been a fan of the name before I even watched the show.) So just let me know which spelling you prefer and maybe why! THANKS!!!!
Re: Lorelei or Lorelai
Honestly I don't think you are wrong (which is one of the reasons I like 'Lorelai' better) but whenever i look it up or post on boards people always say the original correct spelling is 'Lorelei'
BTW I love the name Annabelle that was one of our top 3 girl names!
Lorelei is the correct spelling.
LORELEIGender: FeminineUsage: Germanic MythologyPronounced: lawr-e-LIE, LAWR-e-lie [key]From a Germanic name meaning "luring rock". This is the name of a rock headland on the Rhine River. Legends say that a maiden named the Lorelei lives on the rock and lures fishermen to their death with her song.Lorelai looks right to me. Pretty name! It does make me think of Gilmore Girls though! haha.. only because I had never heard the name before that!
Thanks! And FWIW, I don't think of the Gilmore Girls with that name.
Here's the last -lei/-lai thread:

Lorelei
the LAI spelling looks pop culture-influenced. I'd go with the original.

Agreed.
To me Lorelei looks like it would be said Lora-lie and Lorelai looks like it would be said Lora-lay. But that's just me.
THIS ??????
Please use the original spelling.
Be strong! I love Gilmore Girls, but I loved the name Lorelai loooong before I saw the show! I think Lorelai looks better and makes sense. I would only use Lorelei if I was German or Jewish... it looks German or Jewish to me, but maybe I'm just nuts....
