for those not sleeping well..

I am with you!  Left side, wake up two hours later Left side hurts, Right side, wake up two hours later that hurts, plus I have a metal rod in my arm on that side so my whole body hurts.

My doc said I could lay on my back just as long as I am not laying flat. I am sleeping with...5 pillows behind me at a slant (kinda looks like a recliner).  Then I have a bolster pillow under my knees & my preg pillow to my left.  I have done this the last two nights and have only gotten up to go to the bathroom, not bc of pain with my hips.  I go from my back to my left side and it has really helped.

I know everyone is different and different things are going to work/help just a little tip that might help.

btw...my husband says he can't wait till she is here so he can at least touch me at night because I have my own fort!  Thank goodness we have a King!!

  • I think I should try that.

And my husband calls my pillows my '"fortress of solitude."

  • Wow! Well I hope that will keep helping. I have a queen and a husband that is 6"4, so I don't have room for a fort, lol. Lately I have been using a flat pillow and putting my knee up over it and that helps-sometimes with the wedge pillow behind me or in addition to it- though the trick is waking up often. I honestly haven't been waking up in pain though, so that's a good thing. I am mostly uncomfortable right at first when I am trying to adjust everything.

I recently started listening to a relaxation track (from the Hypnobirthing book) on an mp3 player before bed though, and I honestly think it has helped me get in a deeper sleep. Then I've been practicing the breathing to get back to sleep when I wake up on my back.

  • I wish I woke up every two hours.  I switch positions every 20 minutes or so, then add in 5 trips to pee.  I am well-trained for getting up with a newborn.
  • I sleep with my prego pillow pulled tight under one side of my back so that I'm at an angle.. but I still use my hubs for a pillow when I'm laying on my side. I couldn't bear to give up the contact at night. We never used to fall asleep cuddled, just a foot touch or a hand on his belly (or his hand on mine) but since I popped he loves cuddling at night and thankfully he enjoys falling asleep holding me as much as I do.

  • I've built a wall around myself too!  DH just reaches his hand across it to touch me.  :o)  I've got a system down that has helped my hips, but I still keep trying to roll onto my stomach and that doesn't work out.  LO makes sure to let me know too.  And every time I want to roll over, I have to move my wall around.  Only a few more weeks though.

This. Last night was the worst i've had...every 20 minutes and when i got up to use the bathroom, it wasn't just sciatic pain like it has been...my whole body ached. This morning i finally resorted to a warm shower and just sat in the spray like a lazy bum trying to ease all the muscle strain and tension

  • Hmm...I like the advice for sleeping on your back!!  I was never a back sleeper until I got pregnant- I hated it, but now it feels the most comfortable and I wake up on my back, and just immediately roll off it.  Since I have the bed to myself, I make a huge pillow fort all around me, and my dogs like to lay on top of the fort.

Lately, my couch has been more comfortable- so I have made a bed out of it.  I tucked a flat sheet over it, and have all my pillows out there- but it's a very deep couch, and we have a huge ottoman that can be pulled up and make it wider than a full bed. The arm of the couch with my pillows props me up comfortably to help with the heartburn at night!

  • Thanks for posting the tips. I'm going to add another pillow to my three and try to sleep on my back tonight. My hips are going numb and I'm up several times a night too. I also realized I've had a huge growth spurt, because I officially have to grunt and get some momentum going to roll over, lol.
  • I am so with you on the tossing and turning.  What stinks is that as the belly gets bigger the harder it becomes to turn over!  I think I need to have the bed to myself!
