If your DC is adamant about doing things himself/herself.

I don't know if this is typical behavior and thought I'd ask here. DS is 4. I'll give a few examples that happened in the past few days.

DS had trouble taking his shirt off because the neck was snug. I helped him wiggle it off. He put it back on all the way and then took it off himself.

I opened the door to leave a restaurant, and he said he wanted to do it (whining). He went back in the restaurant so he could be the one to open the door.

Just curious if your DC does this.

  • Yes. Just throw in some screaming of "NO!!! Let me do it MYSELF!!!" while flailing about and you have DS.

  • Oh yes, that is BOTH of my DDs! They 'redo' things that they want to do BY MYSELF all the time. Bucking the carseat buckle is number one. Don't even THINK about trying to do that for them! They also have to choose everything. For example, if I give my DD2 the Elmo fork at dinner, she will have a fit and insist on the Buzz fork. But if I give her the Buzz fork, she demands Elmo.

  • Whew. They are both normal then. DD does the same thing with the forks. Thanks!
  • Sounds totally like my 4 year old.  Very normal for this age.  Try adding in  a 2 1/2 year old who wants to do everything that her big sister does and it just adds to all the fun!
