Strollers and second story...

Ok obviously I am a first timer here...

We live on the second floor - exterior stairs up to our patio and I am concerned about the whole stairs issue. Curious to hear how others handle or plan to. I will be alone in the mornings, husband leaves at 5am so I will need to get myself, baby and dog down to take the dog for a walk, then back up to finish getting ready, then down to go to work, then of course again after work, errands, walks, dog walks....

Do I bounce the stroller down/up the stairs, will that be bad for the baby to bounce around like that? Do I store the stroller down stairs in the garage and carry the baby down to it? Garage is detached from the apartment and I have to walk around down the alley.

Oh and it's an UPPA Baby vista.

Sadly clueless....

Re: Strollers and second story...

  • I had my UppaBaby Vista in a 3-story walk up.  We lived on the 2nd floor and I kept the stroller down stairs by the door.  I wouldn't want to roll it down the stairs for safety of the baby and how hard that would be on the stroller.  If you don't feel comfortable doing that, I would suggest keeping it in your detached garage.  I carried it up and down the stairs for approximately a week before I said "screw this!" and left it down stairs! :)

  • I would just wear the baby in a front carrier rather than dragging out a stroller. It would also leave you hands free for walking the dog and picking up after it.

  • Thanks. I think I pretty much knew the stairs were not a good idea but wanted some feedback. For some reason this part of my new schedule has been stressing me out - I just don't want my new morning routines to get too hectic.
  • I would definintely put baby in an Ergo, Bjorn or Moby in the morning for that walk- or bring the video monitor with me and let him sleep while I take dog for quick walk.

By walk I hope you mean to just use the bathroom.  You should NEVER leave your property while your sleeping child is inside. You never know what could happen while you take a quick stroll.

No. I would NEVER leave my baby at home alone. I think I will start with the wrap idea and see how that goes. I might also try and find a neighborhood kid to take the dog out in the mornings if it works with their schedule. I just don't want a hectic/stressful start to our days and trying to get both of us ready and out the door. After 2 months baby will be coming to work with me.
