What to serve at 10am birthday party?

I just booked ds's party for 10am at a place that allows us to bring our own food. What would you serve? I can't do bagels or donuts because ds is allergic to soy and I'm not making them myself which is pretty much the only way to get a bread product that doesn't contain soy. I would consider making something like waffles myself and having a waffle bar. Sound messy though?

  • That sounds cool. But I wouldn't rule out lunch-type food since kids are usually up early in the morning and have already eaten breakfast earlier. I scarfed down 4 tacos this morning at 10 a.m.
  • What time does the party end?  You could serve lunch if it is 10-1 or something like that.

  • I think a waffle bar sounds like fun.  To make it less messy you could make them ahead and reheat if you have access to an oven or even a toaster oven.

  • It's at a place that's like an interactive childrens museum. We only have the party room from 10-11:30 but can play for as long as we'd like.

Yes. I could make ahead and reheat onsite.

  • Or use a big griddle and do pancakes.
  • How about a french toast casserole since it will be easy to transport?  There are lots of recipes online for it.  I would serve some fruit and a cheese platter along with it.

  • You could do fruit & yogurt .. maybe some donuts ... are you doing a birthday cake that early?
  • My first thought was bagels, cream cheese, and fruit.

What about a cheesy hashbrown dish in a crockpot?

The waffles sound good. You could minimize mess by making ahead or by designating one person to make them and limiting your toppings. Maybe just berries, whipped cream, syrup.
