belly button piercing scar/stretch mark

OK so when I was 14 I decided to get my belly button pierced. Fast forward to pregnancy 1. I took out the piercing once I started to show. Even though it was out, as my stomach got bigger I noticed an X coming off the top hole. It is like a stretch markish looking thing. The X got bigger as my stomach grew. An ultrasound tech said she saw it on a lot in women so it didn't bother me much. As the years went on it faded and is less noticeable. Now this pregnancy it has decided to take on a life of its own again. It is darker in color, and growing what seems to be by the day. I see some women that have had kids post belly button piercing and they don't have the nasty X. I think I'm being punished for getting it done even though my mom forbidded me to back then lol.

Re: belly button piercing scar/stretch mark

  • I got mine pierced when I was 18, then took it out when I was 21 or 22.  So that gave it a few years to heal, and as I get bigger it's just staying it's normal hole.  It's stretching a bit, but so far no marks around it.

  • Interesting.  I had mine pierced when I was 18 and actually still want to keep it.  So, I have a maternity belly ring in now--we'll see how it looks in a few more months!
  • You're not alone. I hate it!
  • My belly button ring tore out while I was vomiting violently during a severe bout of some bug last Christmas - I was so sick, I didn't even notice it was gone until the next day.

It left the tiniest little scar, and didn't bother me (I wanted to get it re-done but was waiting until the summer).

Well, I got pregnant in May so I obviously didn't get it re-done. However, the scar is now huge and it's crazy! But I plan to get it re-done when I can so I'm not too worried.

  • I took my belly ring out for this pregnancy as well, and so far it hasn't really stretched at all, but I KNOW it's coming. I think it's just something we have to deal with - I'm sure we got a few "cute" years out of having it, but I'm giving it up and will just have to deal with the scar I guess!

  • I took mine out about three weeks back, and oh..what a relief..I was even using the pregnancy belly ring, but it was still hurting. So much for holding on to my youth, LOL!

It's stretching quite a bit now, more like "-" line across the belly. I hope it wont get bigger!

  • I still have mine in too. I haven't bought a pregnancy one yet, but I am sure I will need to eventually. I really don't want to get rid of the piercing. I have had it for 10 years and I am determined that I will be able to show my stomach again after having a kid, and when I do I want the piercing there! I used to have a lot of piercings and that is the only one that is left...... I am also hanging on to my rebelious youth!

  • I got mine done when I was 14 too. My mom and dad are tattooists and piercers so they did it for me... I took it out when I was 4 months pregnant with my oldest and holy heck did it stretch. I had one stretch mark around it but that was it. My last pregnancy it stretched out again but the stretch mark was less noticable. This pregnancy it looks fine. It just takes time to adjust to the stretching. It does look horrid after baby though... Not re piercing because I wouldn't show that thing to anyone, not even DH!

  • My ring came out 2 years ago, or just over that.  As of now it's a tiny hole but stretching out horizontally.  Still very, very tiny, though.  I hope it stays that way!

  • I had mine done but had to take it out because it never healed correctly.  I got it done again a couple years later and the same thing happened.  It's been out for, I don't know, 4 years now?  I don't have any marks around the hole yet, but my belly isn't protruding a whole lot yet.  I guess we'll see what happens.

  • I got mine pierced when I was 15, and still wear it.  I took it out around 20 weeks with DD and 18 weeks or so with this pg.  I did not get an 'X' shaped stretch mark, but I did get a small one at the top of the piercing and that was just the start of it.  By 34 weeks I dropped and woke up with stretch marks all over my lower stomach.  They faded a lot, but now are re-stretching and looking nasty again.

  • No scars just yet. I bought some maternity belly button rings that are longer and more flexible so I guess I'll see what happens. It is very sensitive though.

  • I had mine done when I was 14 also... Took it out around 28 weeks with DS. After having him and my stomach going back to normal, my skin between the 2 holes didn't, it perma-stretched! Now, my skin there sags. Literally. I keep my ring in it just to mask the ugliness. :(
