My husband and I have just recently moved to Lexington, and are on the search for our midwife. Does anyone from the area have any recommendations? Any advice would be wonderful!!!
They have several midwives on that list that are fantastic! If you're looking for a home birth, might I recommend Sarah Hood or Karen Brown. They're both very wonderful women. Sarah is a little shy and it takes a while to get to know her, but by the third visit she'll be your best friend. Karen, I think, is looking to cut back on how many clients she's taking, but if you get her, you will love her from the start. (She's my midwife and I love her to death!)
If you're looking for a hospital birth, Katie Issac in Versailles/Frankfort is a phenominal woman (she's my back-up MW, if we have any complications), or any of the MW's at Lex. Women's Health are all stand-up ladies.
Papa Bear, I'd love to know who you are so I can make sure I don't recommend you as a doula to anyone. The fact that you are clearly so team-Karen that you fail to ever mention the best midwife in the area makes you someone I'd never trust. Puke.
OMG! I'm so sorry you feel that way! I only mention the MW's I know. Who are you referring to? I just would never recommend someone I've not heard anything about, or someone whom I've heard negative about. I don't mention one particular name because of the bad rep she's given MW's in my area, though she's supposedly a wonderful woman. I hope to God it's not the same person.
I'm not a doula. I'm in school to become an RN and eventually become a MW myself. I never meant to offend you!
Oh, please. Didn't you say you apprenticed with Donna? You know very well who I'm talking about--the person Donna and Karen try to get people to turn against. If you're saying she has given people a bad rep, you're sadly mistaken. I don't trust anyone who says wonderful things about Donna anyway. She was my midwife for a very short time and was downright negligent and was HORRIBLE.
As I said, people I don't know anything about, or people who I've heard negative about I won't mention. When my back-up MW tells me that if I'm using a particular person she will not be my back-up, and when the high risk guru tells me not to see a particular person, I will not recommend her. I hear great things about her from some people, whereas I've heard negative, but not from Karen or Donna. I'm sorry you take offense to my not mentioning her, but I do not feel that that excuses your apparent negativity and hostility. Might I suggest building up your own position rather than tearing down someone elses good faith contribution, and let people make their own minds. We are all here to help one another out and such attitudes help absolutely no one. Best of luck to you!
Uh, Just came across this thread. I am looking for a home birth midwife. Is there someone that should be steered away from? Are you all talking about Candace Robinson or Jennifer Woodmansee? I've got both on my list to interview, but if there is someone who is a public safety threat, please share.

You've come to the right place! https://baby-moon.org/ or more specifically https://baby-moon.org/birthresources.html
