Mild cramps while running

When I first found out I was pregnant, I created a "rule" that if I felt any lower abdominal/uterine cramping during my runs, I would immediately stop.  However, some weeks that rule is just not realistic.  If I'm having cramps during the week, I'll get them during my runs.

So I was wondering: How much cramping do (or did) you "allow" during your workouts while pregnant?  Would you alter your workout for mild to moderate cramps?

Note: I'm talking about normal cramps -- the kind that are common (and inevitable) during pregnancy, not the ones that necessitate a call to the doctor.

Re: Mild cramps while running

  • I stopped running after 12 weeks, so now I just walk. I'm 25 weeks now & I'll cramp on the lower right side if I walk too fast, so I slow down until it stops. A few times I just stopped & went home because that's the only way it would stop. I find that intermittent exercise works best instead of trying to do it all at once. Good luck!

  • I am still running (at least for now).  I get mild cramps too sometimes.  I asked my ob and she said it sounded like round ligament pain.

  • I have to walk alot at work and I get the cramps in my lower left side as if I had just ran a mile.  I just keep walking slowly and it goes away after a few minutes.
