Good baby monitor recommendation, please!

There are SO many to choose from!  We are not sure which one to put on our registry.  Should we get one with a camera?  Then there is the AngelCare Baby monitor that helps to prevent SIDS?  Any input would be appreciated!  Thank you!

Re: Good baby monitor recommendation, please!

  • I am still trying to decide myself. I have heard horror stories about both the video camera version and even the old fashioned sound monitors...that people driving by can tap into the sequence and hear/see what is going on in your house. Creepy! For that reason we've at least narrowed it down to sound monitoring only.

Good luck in finding one that works for you!

  • I know!  I am so confused!  My friend swears by a video monitor, but I have been reading terrible reviews written by parents who turn their new video monitor on and they see the baby next door!  I do NOT want someone spying on little Ella (or me breastfeeding in the background, for that matter!) ;)
  • After a few ladies posted that their AngelCare monitors saved their babies lives I registered for it.  I know it was probably reactionary, but hey, I feel like it will make me feel more secure and I think that peace of mind is what I need :)

  • We scored a used video monitor off of ebay that we're pretty happy with! The angel care sounds good too. I think both are good options. Not worried about people stalking me over my video. You can turn the screen monitor off while feeding.

  • We decided on angel care because my cousin and her husband said that the video monitor drove them crazy. Anytime their daughter got quiet they were watching the monitor they said they became obsessed with watching their daughter and still do during naps and she's 3!

  • We got a Fisher Price audio monitor for a gift when I was pregnant with DS.  Since he's only going to be 20 months old when DD is born, we got the Graco iMonitor Duo for 2 rooms.  It might be worthwhile to look into if you plan to have 2 kids close in age.  Right after we got it, I switched to using it for my son and I like it a lot better than the Fisher Price one.  I've only used it one weekend monitoring 2 rooms (when our friends and their babies came to visit) but it worked really well then, so I'm happy with the decision so far.  I never researched monitors the first time around because we got the Fisher Price one as a gift before we even registered, so I just used that.  Therefore, I'm not sure how the Angel Care monitor works.  We don't overdress DS to sleep, we always have his ceiling fan going to circulate the air in his room, we offer him a pacifier to sleep... That's worked for us!
  • We registered for the Sony 900 MHz BabyCall Nursery MonitorIt was recommended in baby bargains and had different stations so that our neighbors (who have a baby) couldn't hear our convo inside of our home.
