High-Risk Pregnancy

If you had high BP BEFORE pregnant...

were you nervous at all about TTC? I had DS 7 weeks early due to hypertension (PIH) and BP was fine after I had him. Now all the sudden it's high again and my doc has put me on a BP med for a few months. He said if we are TTC he will put me on one that is safe for pregnancy but I can't help but be nervous. He said this shouldn't deter me from TTC. After last time I just get nervous. I was never on meds or anyting last time. I'm just curious about your feelings on this...Thanks ladies!

Re: If you had high BP BEFORE pregnant...

  • I had high BP before pregnancy, and was put on an approved medicine while I did IVF.  My RE and OB were fine with it, as my BP was under control and had never been too high.  So far, I haven't had any issues.  In fact, so far I have had very normal/somewhat low BP with no adjustments to my meds. The OB has been very cautious - I've been doing 24 hour urine collections every 6 weeks, etc.

If your dr was was concerned, he would have advised you.  I would trust your dr and just ask for special monitoring once you become pregnant to keep track of things.

    Good luck!

  • I am 28 and have had chronic hypertension since I was 23. Its hereditary. I was put on Labetalol 200 2 pills 2 times a day. I carried my entire pregnancy. I had no issues at all with BP. I did have a planned c section for fear my blood pressure would go crazy! Other than that, all went well!! I delivered a 8 lb 9 oz baby boy at 38 weeks!! Good luck!!!?
  • I have had BBP since I was 19 and will be 31 next month. I am currently on Labetalol 200 as well 2 pills 2 times per day, but also am taking 25 MG of ;Hydrochlorizide.  My dr added it back in because he didnt want to increase my dosage anymore and that keeps it controlled while we are ttc, then they will take me off and watch it. I had some trouble when switching my doasage, and meds, and passing out etc. But seems now to b econtrolled for the past 6 months. :) My gynocologist is does not seem to be concerend and told me she has many patients whomake it though the pregnancy with out any complications while on only Labetalol. Good Luck!
