Postpartum Depression

LO is 12 months. Can it still be PPD???

LORD!  I feel like this is a never ending battle.  My son has been so difficult since he was born... maybe we had 1 month of what I could call 'easy'.  Does anyone else with a 1 year old feel like this?  I feel like everything right now just sets me off and makes me crazy.  Even on anti-anxiety/depression meds, they make me feel a little better but I can't seem to escape the anxiety part.  Do you take anything?  What do you take and if you don't mind me asking how much do you take?

  • I dont have a one year old but I take 10 mg of Celexa before bed and 10mg in morning. I also have clonazepam for as needed. I tired zoloft and prozac before Celexa and they didnt work with my anxiety. Celexa did for me. GL. What are u on?

  • My LO just turned 1, I didn't get diagnosed with PPD until 2 months ago, mostly because up until then it wasn't 'depression' I was feeling.  Like you, the slightest little thing would set me off, I would get so irritated, frustrated, and angry over the tiniest things.  I started on 50mg zoloft and that helped a bit with my overall mood but I still had a lot of the frustration and anger so I moved up to 100mg and it seems to working pretty well

  • DS was about 13 months when I finally realized I was fighting an uphill battle and needed some help. Now that I know what a difference Prozac has made in my life and the happiness of myself and my family I am SO mad at myself for trying to be tough for so long!

    I'm on 10mg of Prozac a day.

  • PPD can happen anytime during the first year. Mine started with just anxiety a few weeks after birth with a full on episode by 9-10 months.

And really as long as you can treat your symptoms it doesn't matter if it's considered PPD or just depression. You still can do meds short term as long as it works for you.

    Good luck!

  • My DS is 16 mo old and my doc just gave me a script this week. She thinks I've been living/dealing with it this whole time. She also said it can happen within the first 18 mo. GL.
