Am I weird for feeling like this?

My BFF is getting married and she wants to go clubbing as part of her bachelorette weekend. Of course I'd go, but part of me feels odd clubbing now that I'm a mom. Maybe it's just the concept. I think I had always told myself that no matter how old I was when I got married, I'd stop clubbing when I was a mom. Maybe it feels odd that it'll be my first night away from LO and I'm going clubbing? Can't seem to pinpoint why I feel so awkward about it...

Re: Am I weird for feeling like this?

  • Not weird at all.  I don't like to go clubbing anymore and haven't since I was about 25.  I did go to Tao the weekend it opened as I was there for a bachelorette weekend...that said, me and my BFF were the "elders" of the group at 32 and 33...the rest were all well under 30.  By 3 a.m. we called it a night but the others kept on going...

That said, I wasn't a mom yet, I just was over the "club" scene and such.  I'd rather just go ballroom dancing to a dance band....swing, salsa, tango...whatev...but not really your typical nightclub!  Or hit a wine bar/lounge...I guess it was an age thing for me!

  • Not weird. I am in 2 weddings this year -- one will have a non-traditional bachelorette (e.g., parasailing), while the other will totally want to go out and party. I still love to dance, but not in meat-market-type environments. Now, they creep me out and make me want to go home to my little family.

    Yes! This exactly!

I was just thinking about clubbing vs. being at home with LO and I was thinking, I *sooooo* just wanna be home with LO!

This is me, too - it was more an age issue than a mom one. I think I was a little younger than Lori was - maybe 24? - but I was never particularly into that scene anyway. I'm just too old and cranky these days and get annoyed at paying good money to go somewhere with watered down drinks where it's too loud to hear my friends talk. Stick out tongue

  • Dup post, sorry...

This! I've always been really uncomfortable dancing in the meat-market type environments, even at 21. I never wanted a guy humping my leg at a bar! Maybe I was always the odd man out in that respect but it's just odd to me. If one of my girlfriends wanted to go clubbing, I think I'd go for a short bit (maybe an hour) just to show face but then I'd be out of there. I think I'd use the excuse "man I must just be old because I'm exhausted!" :)

  • LOL... I totally agree... I'd rather be home with LO than at a club. Haha. Plus I just have NO INTEREST in being at a club. Boring!
