Being on the board makes me sick and worried about the future.. I mean half the names are totally made up or mutilated when it comes to spelling... I mean there is one thing from being unique.... but come on...
I'm just horrified that after spending so much time picking nice, normal names for my boys (Alexander and Edward) that they will marry Nevaeh and Evalee.
What really gets me is when they misspell normal names! I've seen Renay, Jiselle, and even Danyel. I can't imagine the kid having to put up with it all her/his life... What's wrong with Renee, Giselle and Danielle?! It's OK to want something different but why pick a normal name and butcher it then?
I think too many parents have it in their head that some how their
child's name makes them unique and stand out - I personally think it's
one's personality that makes one stand out. If every other child has
some bizarre, misspelled name - are those children really going to stand
out? I don't think so. I think those with more traditional, correctly
spelled names are going to stand out more in the future.

It annoys me when people choose a name to be "creative" or "different." Do you know how many moms of Kaidens have told me they wanted something "different?" Or that Nevaeh is clever and unique (actually it has been in the top 30 for the past 3 years)...
Misspelling a name (esp. to include the letters K, X, or Y) does not make it unique! Adding a Y does not make it feminine! Using a popular name for the opposite sex is also not unique.......
I just don't understand the thought processes here!
That's just the point. I don't think there is a thought process in the way most people would go about it. I feel sorry for each and every kid who has to spell their name over and over because their stupid parents preferred Ryanne to Ryan or similar. Know that your child's teachers, and other adults in their lives think you're illiterate and ridiculous when you do this!

So funny, and yet sad at the same time! It's so true.
I guess technically now I should be SecondBabyMomma
Yes! My stepdaughters name is Ashly Teal, yes AshLY and yes Teal. WTF? is wrong with people. However her mother is an illiterate crack whore.
I know two Teals that are in their twenties.
I wonder if it's a Utah thing. I personally think it's terrible. It's a color not a name.
BOOO. I like Rose, Sage, Jade, and Violet.
LOL! sorry, can't help my opinions. The other Sd's name is Saige. Just another shade of green in my opinion and also not spelled correctly. If it makes you feel better Rose is also a flower, Sage is an herb, Jade is a stone and Violet just makes me think of the girl on Willy Wonka. I still hate the name Teal though and I hate even more that her mother left out the E in Ashley b/c she doesn't know how to spell.

Actually, I feel more sorry for people who have parents who are not only completely afraid of being a little different, but who criticize other people who dare to be a little different.

I have no problem with people being "different." But I do have a problem with people forcing that on their kids and sticking them with a "different" name for the rest of their lives just because they like it....and don't have any regard for the fact that their child will have to suffer the consequences.
And there are "different" names that aren't ridiculous.

"I have a nephew named Afroney, and I know how mad he gets when I call him Anthony. Almost as mad as I get when I think about the fact that my sister named him Afroney."
You all would die if you met my sister and her 4 kids! Although I didn't exactly name my son John either.
You have me curious now, spill the names girlfriend
She has 1 girl and 3 boys in that order and their names are:
Bronwyn
Brycesyn (pronounced bryson)
Aurynn (pronounced arwen)
and Aspynn. Bronwyn is the girl the other 3 are boys.
My other sister has 3 kids who are half Korean and half white their names are: Kalea, Kona and Kyan.
Ok, except for Bronwyn, those are awful. Not just the spellings, but the fact that I think of Arwen and Aspen as female names. The half Korean kids don't have that bad of names in my opinion.

I definitely agree with you there. There are lots of beautiful names that are different and not used commonly. I get so sick of hearing the same names over and over on here, names that are obviously popular and obviously good names. Then again there are crazy names too that I would never use that just make me laugh. I guess my point is that not everyone can or should be named Jack, Ava, Isabel, etc and some creativity (to a degree) should be embraced.

I laughed so hard when I read this!
Well, my favorite name of the bunch would have to be Silas!
