My DH & I are expecting our first baby, a daughter, in 6 weeks. We are struggling with names but like Hallie, but it seems like more of a nickname to me. What do you think? Can anyone think of a long name that Hallie could be the nn? Thanks for your help!
Re: What could "Hallie" be short for?
I love Hallie! I think it is an adorable name, and while it does sound a bit nickname-ish, I think it is a name that ages really well.
I'm lost as to what it could be a nn for though. For some reason, I first thought Helena, but that doesn't really make much sense. It is a form of Harriet but not really a nn for it, so I don't know. I think it works on its own though!

I think it's best to just name her the name you like, which is Hallie. No need to complicate things by naming her one thing, but calling her another, even if it is just a shortened version of something.
"The House We Built."
A journey of building the dream.
I absolutely love this name. Another option is to spell it Halle, like Halle Berry.
I don't think it needs a longer name.

I LOOVE the name Hallie! My cousin, and one of my best friends is named Hallie. It's not short for anything, but she was named in honor of her grandfather, whom everyone called "Hal."
It really doesn't need to be short for anything! Giving a child a name and shortening it isn't always classy, it's downright confusing. I have a double name, but I was raised on my nickname, Maya, which has nothing to do with "Mary-Katherine."
Short and sweet does the trick
My DD's name is "Halle" pronounced like Halle Berry. I call her "Hal" for short! The name means "unexpected gift", so we found that really special, because she was very unexpected:) We get compliments on her name all the time...people do often mistaken her name for "hay-lee" though, so be expected to get that a lot, especially if you spell it like "Hallie."
