Reflux question

My 5 week old twins, adjusted age 2 weeks, have reflux issues. The MD mentioned that we could thicken their formula feedings with cereal to help hold the feedings down.  How much cereal to formula do you mix and what kind of cereal do you use? Sorry if dumb question, first time mom here. Also, what kind of bottle nipple or can I just make the hole larger in their level one Dr. Brown nipple?

Re: Reflux question

  • my LO is EBF so I can't help you with the formula question, but I think dr. brown's bottles make a special nipple for cereal

  • My pediatrician told me 1oz of cereal to 1 oz of milk.  I don't use that much though.  I usually put a heaping tsp into 3 oz of milk.  I was told to use Beach Nut cereal.

  • I mix 1 teaspoon of Enfamil AR formula into 2 oz. breastmilk.  It seems to be working.  Any more and you need a bigger nipple, were still using level one dr. Brown's.  I see  a definite difference.  I prefer to use the formula instead of cereal because it's easier to swallow and has lots of good vitamins as well.
