2nd Trimester

When did you start using a pregnancy pillow?

Hey all, I guess I'll officially be in 2nd tri next week but I'm popping over to find out when you all started using pregnancy pillows.  Obv. I don't have much of a bump yet and I'm actually sleeping pretty well in general, but I'm starting to have trouble lying on one side or the other all night without my hip on that side going numb.  I wondered if a pregnancy pillow would help that.

I also periodically have back pain and I know more support would improve it.  I just feel sort of silly thinking of getting something so early that seems to be geared toward people further along.

Thanks!

  • Honestly, I've been using the Boppy pregnancy pillow since around 5-6wks.

  • Still not using one. I think i started about 25 weeks with my last pregnancy. Just use it when you start getting really uncomfortable or cant sleep. :)
  • I got mine around 13 weeks, but did not start to use it til about a week ago.  I have a tendency to sleep on my back, and it helps me not do that.

  • Bought mine right at 20 weeks.  With my first pg, I just had a wedge pillow I used between my knees and made it work with spare pillows at my back and belly.  This time I threw every spare pillow out of bed and was totally miserable.  The pregnancy pillow (Boppy Total Body Pillow) is a much better option for me this time!

This. I have been snuggling up with a body pillow, it does the same thing.

    Yes

  • I always sleep on my side with a pillow between my legs but I really started to need a good pregnancy pillow with a lot of support around 17 weeks. When my tummy started to pop out and I got the round ligament pain I would wake up just sore all over. It was a strange feeling and hard to describe.

There is no problem trying to plan ahead, within reason I would say. And btw- I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to get to the point where you are a lot bigger because the discomfort increases the bigger you get!

  • I just read some reviews of the various pg pillows out there and I do like the idea of just using a regular body pillow (inexpensive, easy to find pillow cases, can switch it around more easily if the stuffing separates in one area).  I'm heading out to run some errands; maybe I'll pick up a body pillow while I'm out and see if it helps with the hip numbness.

  • I have been using the Snoogle pillow since 14 weeks.

I love it! It is super long a flexible so I can have one end between my knees and ankles, the long part either supporting my back or my front and the top bends around and is great as my pillow for under my head.

    I highly recommend it!!

  • I have been using it for the last couple of weeks to get used to it.  I'm also trying to stay off my back.

  • I'ma bout 15 weeks, and I just started using a snoogle. I found a brand spanking new one at a yard sale for 17 bucks, so I figured why not? Plus. my back has been super sore recently (I don't think it's baby related really, I've had issues in the past) and it alines my spine really nice.

Plus I figured it would be good to get used to it now as opposed to when I HAVE to use one.

    I love it, so comfy.

  • btw, I like it better than a body pillow just because I need the support around my back AND between my knees, and the snoogle is longer and more flexible than just your average body pillow. I use body pillow case though, you need two, but two are still less expensive than one snoogle case.
  • I'm with PP on the snoogle - have been using it for about a month now...

  • I think it depends upon the person. I use mine to stop myself from rolling onto my back. So I think it's been since week nine.
