Cloth Diapering

Underwhelmed by MSO

DD wore hers overnight last night for the first time.  We had been using it for naps to get it fully prepped.  Now, I should mention that it did the job and didn't leak (I put a wool soaker over it), but I wasn't all that impressed with the absorbency.  I added a large fleece-topped GMD hemp doubler for stay-dryness and for extra absorbency and the diaper was still drenched in the morning.  I do understand that fitteds get soaked - that's how they work.  But maybe I'm just a pocket girl at heart.

Re: Underwhelmed by MSO

  • DDs gets soaked too, but never leaks. Thats just what fitteds do. I add some fleece for stay dryness.

  • Tabbi's gets soaked too but her skin  isn't wet.  That's been the biggest issue with other fitteds.  Her skin stays dryer.  If I put a thirsties hemp insert under the snap in doubler (or sandwich it between), it stays fairly dry outside also.  She has to have the front snapped down still so only one snap in.

  • This first night I only used one insert because it seemed so huge on him.  It soaked through but didn't leak...so the next night I used both and it still soaked through.  Guess that's just how fitteds are, but it kept him dry.  I didn't add anything.  Must be the OBV?

  • We use our MSO for naps b/c it runs small, and we cannot fit an AFFF in it for nighttime use.  I know some mamas on this board love the MSO, but my LO can pee through a MSO in one nap, so it's not that absorbent for us.  However, it is cute (mine has a cute monkey print), and it's soft and squishy.  But, for us, the AFFF is the key for nighttime.  For nighttime we use B4 and GM mostly b/c an AFFF will fit in them.  I have a Wooldin that I like, but the soaker doesn't snap in -- it is a folded lay-in soaker -- and I prefer a snap-in soaker.  Otherwise, it's a good dipe, too.
