Shower at 35 Weeks +?

My SIL is throwing a shower for me. Originally, we had talked about Nov but she just send the proposed dates and they are Dec 5, 12 or 19. Dec 19 I would be 37 weeks! Plus that is less than a week before xmas. So I guess I will tell her Dec 5 is best. I'm not sure what happened to the Nov plan (other than the fact that she doesn't have her act together yet so she's probably trying to give herself more time). Should I just hope that 35 weeks is ok or should I push for a Nov date?

Re: Shower at 35 Weeks +?

  • Personally, I'd probably push for Nov. 14 or 21, and I'd offer to help with anything that needed to get done ASAP (like invites for 11/14).  Waiting until 35w would make me really, really nervous, although it's not that uncommon.  (and, uh, I'll be 27w at my shower, so I'm obviously not a fan of waiting until the very end, LOL)

  • My shower is tentatively planned for either the first or second Saturday of December.  I will be about 34 weeks I think, I think the timing is okay.

  • If this is baby #1 for you, I would definitely push for a Nov. date.  You are going to have a lot to get ready and you won't want to or feel up to doing it so close to Christmas, it's a stressful enough time as-is.

The snobby part of me wants to add:  if it's too close to Christmas you may have more people that can't make it/can't afford much.

  • It doesn't hurt to ask about November. I think we are looking at 34 weeks as the earliest option for mine. It is tough to coordinate schedules!
  • At first I was going to respond and say that having a shower at 37 weeks would be fine.  If you go into labor and miss it, or if every little thing isn't ready before you have the baby, then it will still be ok.  Truly, not everything has to be ready when you bring the baby home.

THEN, I remembered being pregnant for the first time, and how special showers are.  And I also remember wanting to have everything organized and put together for DD's arrival.  I feel like an a** for forgetting these things.

I, too, would ask about a possible Nov. date and offer to help out to make things work.   Good luck, and I hope it all works out!

  • I'm having my shower on December 4th.  This is my first baby and I'm due on Jan. 22.

  • this is a tough one.  Part of me wants to say that if a Nov shower would work for her, she would have included that in the list of possible dates.

But I know how I would feel in your situation, and I'd be freaking out a bit too.

What I'd probably do is pick the first Dec date she gave and hope for the best - though I'd really want to speak up and push for November.

  • go with dec 5 or earlier if you can! i will be 29 weeks at my shower but primarily because of holidays!  I would have been  OK with later Nov or early Dec but we have so many holiday conflicts and were worried our guests would too.

  • I would go with the earliest date December 5th.

My shower is 11-13 and I'll be 32 weeks. I wanted to have mine before all the holidays to make it easier on guests and then I won't be out shopping for baby and holiday gifts.

  • I would ask for the earliest date she can do.  I am a super planner and want everything organized/bought by the time I am 35 weeks.  I also do not want to be super miserable for my shower-I want to enjoy it!
