Kimball as a first name. Boy or girl?

Just curious.  Not even pregnant yet, but it is an old family name.  It will likely be a middle name, but someone mentioned it as a first name and it got me thinking about it.

Probably won't be used, just curious.

If anything, it sounds like a last name.  In general, the sound "gall" in a name is not pleasant. I hear "gall" in Kimball.

I say boy, because of the novel "Kim" by Rudyard Kipling (the main character is Kimball O'Hara) 

 It's not something I would choose for a first name, but I think it would be a great middle name.

It is my boy cat's name so I can't get past it being a name for anything other than a pet. Saying that I would say boy if I had to choose.

To me it honestly reminds me of the UFC fighter Kimbo Slice, but honestly if this is a name that you really want then go for it!

I think it sounds like a last name. As in Richard Kimball (The Fugitive). Awesome middle name, though.

It's our son's middle name, FWIW, so I say boy.  It was my husband's grandfather's middle name, which was his grandfather's name.

And being in Boston, do you know Kimball Farms out in Carlisle?!  When I lived in Cambridge it was our favorite place to make an ice cream run for insane amounts of the good stuff for not nearly enough money.  So good!   So that's REALLY what I think of Kimball...ice cream.

I like it as a middle name for either (especially since it's a family name) but for a first name, I'd assume boy.
