local anesthesia for egg retrieval?

Has anyone just done local anesthesia?  I know most places use general anesthesia, but the clinic I'm going to recommends local.  Just curious if anyone has ever done it with local.  if yes, what was your experience?  I'm going to post this question over at SAIF, also.

My RE will only do twilight, but for all intents and purposes you are knocked out. He said he has heard not so pleasant stories from women who have been to clinics that only do locals. I've not experienced a local fo ER myself, but I don't want to!

My clinic doesn't do that. I remember a few months ago, someone posted that she had local for her ER, and many girls were shocked. I don't know really have any advice, though. GL!

Is it possible they use the words interchangebly?  I could have sworn they said I was under local/twilight but  I might be wrong.  I was not awake for mine.

With twilight anesthesia, you are technically awake during the procedure, but you have no memory of it.  You are in a very happy place - or as my RE says, I get to go to the Bahamas while he does my ER.  I was even under twilight for my heart surgery.

With general anesthesia, you have to be intubated in case you stop breathing.  Typically used for major surgery.

With local anesthesia, it is like the the numbing shot you get at the dentist when you get a filling done.

I would never want local anesthesia for my ER.  Twilight is definitely the way to go.

I also had twilight. I've heard that patients jump too much with local and that makes it harder to get eggs. OUCH!
