Fever: How high is too high?

So this post isn't as much about when to go to my doctor, as how to get a fever down while I'm pregnant, outside of just taking Tylenol.

I'm running a fever around 100.2, which normally I wouldn't worry too much about, but now I would like to get it down as quickly as possible.

Creative suggestions? (I already did the Tylenol thing...)

Re: Fever: How high is too high?

  • Other than Tylenol, maybe just try to drink as many fluids as possible.  Chicken broth has some antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties.  But if Tylenol wasn't working for me, I would call my OB's nurse hot line and ask them.  They may want you to go in.  IDK how high is dangerous.  Hope you feel better soon.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • My OB told me I didn't need to be concerned about a fever unless it reached 102 and couldn't be brought down with Tylenol.

If your concerned call the on call Dr.

  • The only thing I can think of is make sure you aren't holding in the fever under blankets and lots of clothing...if you are chilling I know this can be difficult but wear as few as clothes as possible. Mom always used to put a wet rag on our faces. Not hot but probably around room temperature. I know you said you didn't want to know when to call the doctor but my ob always told me to get ahold of them if I ran a fever anything higher then 100.0 Hope you get to feeling better.

  • Ditto with the above; something that works for me as well is a cold-pak to the back of your neck for a few minutes at a time.

  • I appreciate the suggestions... A cold rag on my head/ neck actually sounds great right now... I don't know why that didn't occur to me.

  • 2 fingers of whiskey over ice?

ok ok maybe not. hoenstly other than tylenol not really sure you can do much, maybe get run a wash cloth under cold water and put that on your head or wrists to help cool you down?

  • I always do a cool shower and then loose light clothing after.  My OB told me I shouldn't be concerned till 101 and if it doesn't come down with tylenol.

    Feel better :)

  • 100.2 at night is nothing to worry about. Some pregnant women also run higher than normal temps..

This is the same thing I was told.
