10 week old wanting to try and walk??

My DS just hit 10 weeks for the last few weeks he seems to really like to stand, so we started holding him up so he could try and stand, now he can fully hold himself up on his feet for about 5 minutes at a time and doesnt need our help other than balance (hes also had full neck control since he was about a month, he LOVES tummy time) when ever he is grumpy we let him stand on the floor or out laps and now hes started walking as long as we give him some help with his balance, is this normal for a 10 weeks old?? I worry that it might be hurting his joints and I don't want him to skip crawling! that's a big mile stone. Is it fine to let him keep doing this?

  • Also, I know he is not going to just be able to walk at 10 weeks that's crazy! But I am an only child and never even changed a diaper before I had my son, so I am pretty dense about this whole developmental process haha

  • DS can stand and hold his weight, but can't balance yet.

I would say it's not a good thing to let them stand like that on their own for very long.  It could very well affect their joints and bone growth and musculature.

Maybe call your pedi to see what they think.

  • My kid is the same way.  Sometimes standing is the only thing that will keep him happy.

  • It won't do anything and it doesn't mean anything.  My first did that and crawled at 5 months and walked right before 9 months.
  • DD #1 liked to be stood up like that and also to "walk" or "bounce".  Not a big deal if they do skip crawling though - she did.  As soon as she could pull up she started to cruise and then just took off walking.

  • Don't worry about not crawling.  DH walked before he crawled.  It's not a big deal if he skips it.
