Nap Nanny

I was looking at recalled items and saw the Nap Nanny as an item on the list, due to improper use in the crib. Our daughter (5) had serious reflux and this baby has given me reflux (since week 6 been on meds). I think this item is a must for our 2 story house, bc we can move it from room to room and use it longer than a swing/vib chair/bassinet. What are everyone elses thoughts on this item? I am welcome to any pos/neg comments... I just don't know anyone with one to ask their opinions of the product.

Re: Nap Nanny

  • My friend just bought me one for a gift, and I'm excited to use it.  She originally heard raves about it from her friends, so she bought it and now says it's one of her must-have baby items.  Both of her kids have slept well in it.  We'll see!

  • It was recalled and the newer Nap nannies are fine.  Here is an excerpt from the CSPC recall page

The Nap Nanny was sold from January 2009 through July 2010 for about $130. Parents who have an original Nap Nanny, which was sold before August 15, 2009 and does not include 'Velcro straps inside the cover securing the cover to the foam base,' should stop using it and can get an '$80 coupon towards the purchase of a new Nap Nanny with free shipping.'

If you have a newer Nap Nanny that does have 'Velcro straps inside the cover, which attach the ring, securing it to the foam base,' you should stop using it until you view a new Nap Nanny instructional video and understand all instructions, warnings, and dangers, especially that you only use the Nap Nanny on the floor and not in a crib, playard, or other raised surface and that you secure all straps properly. There is no further recall or need for a replacement on these newer Nap Nannys.

  • We used it with DD while she napped or played in it while we were supervising. I would not feel comfortable leaving her in it alone (ie crib) because the sides were kind of high and she would squish her face into the side of it. I would worry that she'd stop breathing. But for after meals while we were there it was great for her reflux! I plan on using it the same way with DS.

  • My son has reflux, you can get medically prescribed positioners if necessary.

  • I think that as long as you get the newer one that wasn't recalled and you follow the directions for appropriate use, this thing looks awesome and I have heard great reviews.  I get so annoyed at all these recalls because parents didn't follow the instructions or use common sense (Bumbo on a kitchen table, seriously???).  I am really thinking we may get a nap nanny if this baby has reflux.  DS never really had it, but my poor niece did and it was terrible.  If they had had this back then, I would have bought it for her- you could just see the pain it caused :-(
