Help with a girl's name

Hi all,

  I've been lurking for months but rarely post. I just found out I am having a little girl and was hoping for some help. All opinions are appreciated.

  So, my husband and I really, really like the name Caitlin. It just reminds us of an adorable little Irish girl with braids skipping through the green hills. But...I had no idea until lurking on here that there are so many ways to spell it. We like the spelling as above as that is how I would traditionally spell it, but I don't want her to have to go through life getting her name spelled wrong. It still irks me that people who have known me for years spell my name wrong (Colleen with 2 L's yet people spell it with one L.)

  Other names we like are Erin, Shannon, Bethany and Aster. We like feminine without being too formal (like Elizabeth or Margaret which are very nice, they just seem so Victorian to me.)

  So, is the spelling thing that big of a deal? Any of the above names that make you think stripper or "what were the parents thinking?". Any other suggestions?

My favorite way to spell Caitlin is the way you spelled it.

Erin is okay.  Shannon and Bethany scream 80s and 90s to me.  I'm not a fan of Aster.

What about Camille?  It's simliar to Caitlin and not nearly as popular.  I also like Corrine, Cora, and Melanie.

Well, I have to confess that Caitlin is totally NMS, but if you and YH have found a name you both love and agree on, I say go for it. Most people have a really, really hard time coming to that agreement.

I think the original spelling of Caitlin is the one you have mentioned. Though it's a name that has many, many spelling varients, that one seems to be the default of sorts.

Of the other names you mentioned, I really like Bethany and Aster. Shannon and Erin are pretty, too, they're just a little dated. I really like the "Irish-ness" of your names. It's cool to honor your heritage that way.

I have a brother named Corey so I'm afraid Corrine and Cora might be too close to that. Maybe not? I love, love Camille though. Never even thought of that one. Will have to run that by DH.

Yeah, I agree that Shannon and Erin scream the 80's too. Oh well.
