Infertility

thinking about another consult... crazy?

So I am contemplating making a consultation appointment with one of the REs that said they wouldn't even run tests on me until I lost the weight. I am about 25 pounds away from doing an IVF cycle with my current RE, I am hoping I will be able to get it off by Feb. At that point I will also be at the weight this other RE wanted me at before starting. As much as I dislike him personally (he is a very cold fish and has a horrible bed side manner), this RE is only 15 minutes away as opposed to 45 for my current RE. Plus he is kinda known as the best guy in this area, and he has some pretty impressive success rates.

So would I be crazy to set up a consult with an RE that I don't like because he is closer and has great success rates and possibly leave my current RE whom I love, but is 45 minutes?

Re: thinking about another consult... crazy?

  • I don't think you're crazy at all. A consultation isn't a commitment. And even if you don't switch, you may get an interesting perspective that could even be useful with your current doctor and planned protocol. The more information, the better! Good luck!

  • i love my RE and think it's important to really like my dr as opposed to distance, ideally it would be great to have both.

do you want to try cold RE b/c of success rates?  i can see that, maybe go to appt.and if you like some of his ideas, talk them over with current RE if you can't get past the cold fish manner.

Agreed!  Knowledge is power and the more insight you have the better decisions you can make.  Good luck!

  • I agree with Roselln. Unless it is cost prohibitive, it couldn't hurt and maybe even reinforce your feelings bout your current RE.

    Good luck!

  • I agree that the more information you have the better. A consultation won't lock you into anything. If his success rates dwarf your current RE's that might be worth dealing with his crappy attitude. At the end of the day, it's about getting pregnant. Good luck!
