Gumdrop paci's

Who has used them? I'm contemplating ordering a few but I'd like to hear some feedback about the Soothies. Are they compatible with breast feeding?

Re: Gumdrop paci's

  • A Soothie is what we got from the hospital. We've tried to give our daughter another sort (the rare times she takes a pacifier) and she just gets a 'WTH is this???' look on her face.

I avoided giving it to her unless we were desperate for about the first month... she still doesn't take it often, but we've had no problems.

Honestly, that Soothie from the hospital is the only one we have.

  • All pacis can mess up teeth but the soothie does much more damage.  They're fine early on but make sure it's gone by the time teeth come in.  I'd stick with an orthodontic paci if you think that  you might use it longer.  Plus the gumdrops are harder to find, we misplaced lots of pacis and it was nice to be able to find what I needed at a store nearby!
  • I won't argue orthodontic vs. Soothie because my son doesn't really take a paci although he's tried both as well as old fashion bulb style pacis.  The deal is, the Soothies are often given in hospitals and tend to work when othordontics don't. If your child prefers the soothie style, you might want to consider the gumdrops that fit more comfortably around the nose and mouth.  You pay more for the gumdrops but some people think its worth it for the comfort.  I know for someone who registgered for a 5 pack of gumdrops for a good price on Amazon so it may pay to buy in bulk.

  • When I had DS, the lactation consultant told me that Soothies were the best pacifier to use for a breastfed baby, because they dont interfere with the latch like some can (although no pacifier is always best for beginning breastfeeding of course). However, Gumdrops are made by the same company as Soothies, and have the exact same nipple shape/size as far as i have been told, so it's just a matter of personal preference. I always preferred Gumdrops over Soothies because they weren't so big on DS's face.
