Cloth Diapering

Would you buy local?

I am researching cloth diapers for my workplace. With so many places to buy online, would you ladies prefer to buy your dipes in a local business or online? I'm not sure if they would be a good choice for us or not. TIA! :)

PS I am not a vendor and will NOT post any spam. I'm just a Nestie trying to do a little research for a small business.

  • I most certainly would prefer to buy locally, which is what I do.  I will buy online every once in a while for some specialty diaper/accessory.

  • Our local hospital gift shop just started carrying Cotton Babies products.  If they had been selling them when I bought my stash I definitely would have bought local.  I was in there the other day to check out what they have on hand and they said the response has been huge since they got them a month ago.

  • I would buy locally if I knew that I was getting the best price.  The only local shop I know of is pretty far away from my house and a little on the pricey side.  My husband is a huge researcher...so we rarely buy things in a store that can be purchased on line.

There are so many different brands/styles to choose from! I'm having trouble figuring out where to start. I really need to figure out what brands will sell well as I am going to market this weekend. Ahhh!!! Any suggestions on where to start from a retail standpoint? What would you like to see in a store?

  • I do prefer to buy locally because I prefer seeing/touching what Iam buying. As far as what do I like to see in a store goes, variety. Different kinds of diapers, different brands, different prices.

I would try to find out what is popular in your area.  People definitely rely on personal recommendations so preferences will vary greatly by area.  I know the buyer for our hospital relied on her daughter and a local mom's group for recommendations.

Any ideas on where to find other groups? I know my local Bumpies and only one of them CD's. As far as I know, only one other store sells CDs and they are going out of business. They carried GAD which is a brand I haven't seen mentioned anywhere.

  • I've found other groups on facebook. Some cloth diapering blogs have facebook pages. My local store does and through there I have read other blogs and "liked" different facebook group or fan pages where there's cloth diapering talk. HTH

  • I have. I like to support local businesses if possible but I do buy online if there is a big sale.
  • I buy from my local store when they have what I want.  They seem kind of sporadic on what they carry when, though.  I do buy a lot of stuff from their used bin.  They buy and sell used diapers from local moms & usually have good prices on those.  They sell FB and bGs at the same prices as online retailers, so I buy those from them (again, when they have any).  They also sell some WAHM made diapers from a local woman.
  • I buy from whoever has the best deal on the product I'm looking for ;)

  • I prefer to buy local.  I love my local store.  The owner is so helpful.  I do buy online for the products that she doesn't carry.  Unfortunately she is relocating and the store will probably close unless she finds a buyer soon.  :  (

  • I am new to CDing and did a lot of research online; however, when it came to actually buying any, I went to a local shop so I could see them in person and get suggestions from the owner. Now that I have purchased some, I might buy online, but I want to support my local shop as well.  Smile
