Fold Over Mitten Outfits

So many people have mentioned that the side-snap shirts with separate bottoms are the best things EVER for newborns.  1- Because infants wiggle out of those mitten things at night and scratch themselves so because it is built into the shirt they can't wiggle out and 2- because with all of the diaper changing it makes it very convenient to have separate bottoms.

The only problem is where to find them?  I have found the Gerber side snap shirts at Babies R Us and the only "outfit" kind that I have found is at Baby Gap.  I'd like to find a better quality than Gerber beings that I hear newborns practically LIVE in these...but, I don't want to spend as much as the Baby Gap ones.  Anyone out there know of where to find some...maybe even some in print?  Thanks!!

Oh, and here is what I am talking about:

Re: Fold Over Mitten Outfits

  • I never used side snap onesies just the normal over the head ones and never had problems. I had fold over mittens on outfits and sleepers from carters and I think a few from target and walmart. I was also told you can use socks they stay on better. I really used the fold over mittens I clipped her nails ever other day or two and she never scratched her self.

  • I wouldn't stress too much about the side snap shirts.  They can be tough to find, and you really don't need them.  It's just that many new parents are very nervous about putting a shirt/onesie over LO's head.  Newborns aren't as breakable as we first-timers like to think.

I do want to get some non-onesie tshirts for him to wear while he still has his umbilical stump though.

  • At Macy's there is a brand line called First Impressions that I LOVE. The clothes are soft, cute,  and they have great truly gender neutral options available- I think they have gender specific too. I have a couple of sets where there is a side snap and matching pants with footies. They do not have the fold over sleeves. I also bought a 2-pack gown set 0-3m with the foldover sleeves and I hear the gowns are great when you are changing diapers throughout the night at Macys. I recieved Carter's onsies that are long-sleeved white that have fold-over sleeves. GL!
  • We used the mittens on the couple outfits we had like 2 times. Clipping nails is scary at first, but you get over it pretty quick.

  • I got a set (foldover shirt and pants) at Cater's (outlet) and OshKosh (outlet). They were about $4 per set. I bought two sets and they are pretty soft.

  • I've seen carters outfits with the mitten fold overs. My ds didn't really scratch himself so we never used the mittens, you can also put socks over the hands, they stay on really well unlike those little gerber no scratch mittens.
