So since I'm at the 99 day mark, I feel like I need to get going on the nursery! We were lucky enough to have DH's parents buy DD a beautiful set of furniture that included a convertible crib, so it's her furniture for a long time.
I would never expect them to buy us furniture again, but MIL said they were going to buy a set for this LO right after I got pregnant. Then a few weeks ago, she asked what we were doing about furniture. (She even said that she thought my parents should buy it this time. Way out of line, IMO!) She wants us to use DH's old toddler furniture and let the baby have DD's. Well, I don't want the old furniture, and I don't want to give up DD's for the new baby, so we're buying new furniture. I'm annoyed that they even said they would buy it in the first place and aren't, but I'm not mad about it. That's a lot to expect, and they're notorious for promising things and not following through.
So anyway, I was upset at first that we couldn't afford a set comparable to DD's, but now I'm over it and ready to purchase some furniture. My questions (finally) are:
What crib are you getting?
Is it part of a set, and if so are getting the whole set?
If not, how are you choosing what pieces to match with the crib?
I'm disappointed that I won't have a big changing table/dresser like DD's. I can't find one that's under $600 that's longer than the changing pad.
Re: questions about furniture (long)
I bought the Graco Victoria crib. Its pretty girly though and probably wouldn't have chosen it if I was having a boy. Graco Lauren (fixed side version) is a nice choice too. Highly rated and less than $250. Both are convertible cribs which was important to us.
I have a really old family dresser that is the perfect height and size to double as a changing table. So we are just getting the contoured changing pad that attaches to the dresser. Because we had that dresser already, we didn't look at any sets.
We also installed a nice closet organizer.
We went with a Munire convertible crib & dresser (which is longer than the changing pad, and is under $600). We paid about $1000 for the two pieces, the conversion rails for later on, and delivery/set-up.
It's this set: https://www.munirefurniture.com/essex_04.htm
We didn't get the hutch to go above the dresser, though - didn't seem worth the extra money.
We bought the Graco Shelby crib and the Sarah changing table. After a great sale the other day on Amazon it worked out to be $250 total. We have an antique white dresser that we already owned that we'll be using in the baby's room. I plan on getting a few closet organizers to help stack items that don't fit in the dresser/changing table.
We purposefully bought the crib because it had great reviews, is affordable, and can convert later on. It's also supposed to be great for shorter moms, and I wanted to make sure I could reach in without using a stepstool.
The crib is the only thing we bought new - Graco Sarah Classic in cherry.
The changing table is a free hand-me-down and almost exactly matches the cherry finish of the crib.
We just bought a dresser from a local antique store for $400.
And, we bought a red upholstered LazyBoy rocker off Craigslist in like-new condition for $250.
